• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Flight1 has released Airport Facilitator X. Simply said this is an improved (and payware) AFCAD for Fs2004 and FsX. It seems to have some interesting features that show your work in FS as you work on it, which might make designing more easy. Check out their side for more details and if you have some extra information on this tool, feel free to share it with other designers here.

Arno,

Thanx for the heads up on this one! Got it, installed it and ran it, no problems.

Much the same as AFCAD but now for FS9 and FSX. Seems to have all of the functions on the AFCAD "wish list". Looks like a great program but will have to get "into it" to see if there are any gremlins running around.

On the surface, this is what "I've been waiting for". Hope others find the same.

Regards,

Larry

For others looking for a similar tool, there are two tools under development (see the Scenery design forum).

I speak, of course, of FSX Planner which edits XML Airport files and compiles into bgls for use in FSX - and ADE, which converts bgl files to XML, edits and re-compiles.

FSXPlanner will have integrated BGL decompiling to XML in its "final release"

Both of these are excellent tools, and well worth a look before considering a purchase of the flight1 product.

I realize that AFX is payware, but...

Will FSX Planner or ADE have built-in taxi/ryw sign generation or a built-in exclude generator as well as the ability to view your changes immediately in FSX?

FSPlanner already has a very nice taxisign wizard and user exclusions.

ADE will have a taxi sign designer and already generates certain automated exclusions (e.g for taxisigns).

I think it safe to say that both tools will have or maintain at least the same level of function in those areas as AFX.

I cannot speak for Russell but it is unlikely that ADE will have the ability to display things directly in FSX in the near future. There is some clever programming in there that, I think, comes from Instant Scenery. Also I have a concern over the impact on installations that are not in the top range.

Just checked out FSX Planner for the "first" time. Guess I have to get out of my cave more often!

Very nice program, indeed! I like the image overlay function, particularly, and the taxi/rwy sign option seems a bit more advanced than the one in AFX.

I'm not as accomplished a scenery designer as most fellows here, more of a GUI kinda guy. Don't really have the time to learn the more technical aspects of scenery design or modeling, so AFX looked good to me. I may switch over to AFX Planner when it is fully released and add AFX to the rest of the payware programs that I don't use very much. Oh well, it's only money

Airport Facilitator X

I just bough this add-on and I must say that this is sofar the best money I have ever spent!

I tested the program against AFCAD2004 and I have found it to be an exact duplicate of AFCAD. The screen layout is the same, the keystrokes used to move around the airport and to zoom are the same, the menus are the same, even the icons used are the same. The program even allows you to read the FSX airport AFCAD files directly! It appears as if Konstantin Kukuskin, who developed the program, got his hands on the source code for AFCAD2004 and just added the FSX features into it.

If you are looking for an AFCAD clone then you will not get anything closer than this!

Could someone post a link to ADE, if there is one, so I could check it out?

Thnx in advance,

Larry

According to their forum, Flight1 released an update to AFX with background image support and a few other new features, and also released a free demo.

Haven't tried the update myself yet, but it looks very promising :D

@sadde6:

ADE can be found on the Scenery Design Engine forum here:
