• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi all,

A few years ago we organised an online conference for FS developers called FSDevConf. Over a few days we had a dozen of presentations on different topics for developers.

Recently I got a few questions from people if we would do something similar again. Or some people come up with possible topics to present at such an event.

So my question to you all is do you think we should have such a conference again or was a one time event enough? I would have to add that the people that organised the first FSDevConf are all quite short on time at the moment. So if we would have another go at it, we would need some other community members to do the organisation this time :)

The one unfortunate side of the first go-around is that not very many questions were asked during the presentations. I didn't watch all the presentation live, so I may be wrong about that. If there is little to no viewer engagement during the presentations, then the purpose of doing it live seems sort of pointless to me.

A big part of conferences is being able to socialize with the speakers. The conversations that arise in these scenarios often go beyond the subject matter of their presentations since each speaker has wide array of expertise and knowledge. It'd be neat if a FS developer conference could embrace this kind of environment.

Perhaps a more effective online conference structure would be something like the following:
  • Upload prerecorded presentations and allow them to sink in with viewers.
  • Later on the speakers devote time to answering questions and interacting with viewers in a live discussion.

Facebook Live is all around and we can post the questions through Facebook.
I think P3D is going to be the main stream of Flight Simulator. There are still a lot of trouble with making scenery in P3Dv3 such as Ground Poly with native P3D material. I would love to hear this one.

Hi,

I agree that the main purpose of doing it live is the interaction. Most presentations had some questions and sometimes interesting discussions. But we used Google Hangout that time and it added a short delay which made the interaction harder.

If we mainly want the interaction we could also try to organise a regular online session where developers can just talk and brainstorm together. That might fit the purpose as well. Just presentation can also be done on YouTube.

I think a new event would be great.
I am available and volunteer for its organization.

I'd like this... So what we are looking for is something like seminars on various topics with a general speaker saying what he has to say and discussing the questions after? (be it through a live-stream software of some sort)

One element that's tough is the time difference for us all.

Yep... I am in Phoenix, GMT= -7 time zone.

I'll try to help if I can but its very difficult right now. Family is having some issues.

Is there a way, I wonder, that would improve a conference? I like the idea of a Facebook 'thing', going live. Sounds interesting, and we would be able to use their resources to run it.

Hey, I live in french guyana, GMT -3.
Im one of the people who asked Arno about doing FSDevConf as I'd like to share my experiences and some tips with this community that I love :) (yes yes, I love you guys :) )

I won't tell you my main topic as it is a surprise ;)

Regards, ASim

It's an interesting idea to do an FSDevConf. But, if the 'live' idea poses us for problems with timezones, and if the interaction isn't really high, should it be a conference? Or should we rather call it a 'presentations marathon' (or a 'tutorial marathon' if you like).

I like this idea.

Last time round I thought I'd have a topic for next conference, but I've been overtaken in my efforts by several different developers already actually!

Something I would like to see is a dedicated TS server for FSD members that we could logon to for discussions on various topics. With chat rooms setup the same as the different forum sections and etiquette rules.
I understand that this would be a challenge for administrators since there would be no record of conversations should something go awry and this, I understand, could make the administrators hesitant to the idea. Even though, I believe the members of FSD would respect the ground rules.
If the administrators are conducive to the idea it could be run under a test basis.
With this there could be an ongoing FSDevConf without all the organizational hoopla.
Your thoughts on this?

We used to have a TS server in the past, but it was hardly used so we closed it when we moved servers.

If we don't want the live interaction we can also just regularly upload videos from different developers to the FSDevConf YouTube channel. That will make organization much easier.

I think it should be a live event. We can pick up a suitable time as well, this should not be a show stopper.

Also what tech/platform we can use to stream and present ?

What about TeamViewer and Skype is another alternative.

Last time we used Google Hangout for the platform. It allowed a lot of people to join, which can't be done with Skype so easily I think. And the resulting recording could easily be put on YouTube as well.

But maybe new platforms have appeared in the last two years that are even better suited.
