• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 Another shadow question

Does the "no shadow" option in the material editor work with FS2004? Setting it to true and exporting had no effect on the texture in FS9, and when I reloaded the modified mdl back into MCX, the no shadow option was set back to false. I was able to remove the shadow using MDL Tweaker, but it would nice if I didn't have to add another program to the process.

Hi,

No, that setting is for FSX only. I am not aware of a FS2004 way to set shadow through MakeMDL on specific parts.

I've had to use Model Tweaker too, Sidney. That does work fine, although it is another step.

Arno, could you incorporate the FS2004 no shadow function of MDL Tweaker into MCX? Could be an export option. :D

Hi,

I could include it in the MDL Tweaker function that I added in ModelConverterX recently.

But I can't put it into the export step directly, it would always be a MDL tweak. That's because MakeMDL does not support this option directly.

Hi,

That would be good too, although again, an extra step (create the MDL, load the MDL, and tweak the MDL). It would be nice if when you Export an FS2004 MDL file you could choose the tweaks you want at that point - then the MDL file would be created, then tweaked, automatically. :)

MDL files could still be loaded into MCX to be tweaked, of course.

Hi Tom,

I guess that should be possible. I'll have a look at it.
