• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Apron from helper shape problem

Hi,
I'm creating several circular dispersals/aprons using the helper shape make apron option. I have ADE set to feet for dimensions as I'm working from a wartime photo. When I create a circular helper shape of say 140ft dia. and select make apron, ADE draws the apron at approx 1/3 of the size. If I change to metric, it draws at the same size as the helper shape. In each case the dimension units show as feet or metres dependant on what I have set in options. It appears as though in the first case ADE is calculating the conversion from imperial to metric wrongly. Has anyone else experienced this?
It's not a major problem, more an inconvenience.

THere could be a conversion difference in the helper shape program. We did not look ar this as a high priority with deminsions since helper shapes are more of a visual for size rather then a precicse size.

I have placed it on my list to look at this again in the future.

It would also be helpful if the heading on the helper shapes could be manually adjusted similar to guidelines. I know you can use the handle to rotate them, but it isn't as precise as manually being able to enter the heading.

Perhaps this functionality is already there and I just missed it?

Aprons

I have not had any problems with aprons. It is a great help placing the standard 36 dispersals on UK airfields. The apron diameter is smaller than the helper diameter.I select feet and set 440 and then delete the helper circle. This size looks ok on WW2 airfields.

No there is no way to enter the heading for a helper shape. However the tool tip tells you the current heading as you rotate the object using the rotate handle. I will look at updating the property dialog for helper shapes

That would be great Jon. Also, it would be helpful if once you create the helper shape, you could adjust the size through the property box. Sometimes it's hard to know how big the helper shape will actually be (in relationship to other elements) until you create it.

It helps if I would read the release notes and the documentation first on helper shapes...

  • Increase width: Ctrl + Left Arrow. For constrained shapes this changes both dimensions
  • Increase height: Ctrl + Up Arrow. For constrained shapes this changes both dimensions
  • Decrease width: Ctrl + Left Arrow. For constrained shapes this changes both dimensions
  • Decrease height: Ctrl + Down Arrow. For constrained shapes this changes both dimensions
  • Rotate: Alt + Mouse Wheel or Ctrl + Alt + Mouse Wheel or select it and drag the handle
  • Make bigger: Ctrl + Numeric Pad Plus
  • Make Smaller: Ctrl + Numeric Pad Minus

This is better than having to use the property box to change the dimensions. However, I'd still like the ability to fine tune the heading.

I thought you wrote those settings in the manual back when you were doing that work on ADE :)
