• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Arial Narrow Bold Font

Well, the latest beta still bugs me about it and I don't have any runway numbers.

Thanks for investigating.

I would expect that since it is a missing font.

I wonder if the Microsoft Word Viewer program would contain the correct font:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891090

There is also a compatibility program link on that page, that also might help.

Dick

It probably would, but since its a viewer, it could have the font hardcoded into the program itself, thus not installing the font file. It could also revert the font to the closest similar font instead, similar to how notepad reverts ALL font to its selected font, whereas if you paste into wordpad it will copy the font type as well. I will see if I can research a little to find out later.

If anyone else knows, please post it. But since Jon said it was listed, I would asume a fix or replacement is either in the works or has been released.
He did add to the list of things to check.

I thought I had

I have added it to the list to check

Hi all,

I have only just started getting the font issue with ADE,

All the links to font are dead now or cost money.

Why am I only getting this issue now, when this thread started 2 years ago??

Did you get it fixed??

Peter

Hi Peter

The only way to 'fix' it is either that the user has the font on their computer or we change the font used in ADE to something else. Unfortunately Microsoft stopped shipping this font for some countries and for some versions of Windows.

When you say you only just started to get the problem - do you mean ADE has worked for you in the past and just stopped or you only just installed ADE for the first time?

Yep, Jon

Worked fine until couple of weeks ago, then started getting the message on start.

Bet Microsoft removed the font in a recent windows update!!

That's possible. I am doing an update to ADE at the moment. I will see if I can come up with something better that we have at the moment for handling this.

Figured out a solution.

The font is in FS9 itself!!
In the fonts folder - arialnb.ttf (arial narrow bold)

Double click on it, then at the top ( in win7 anyways) is says install, click and voila.
Otherwise copy and paiste in your windows\fonts folder

No more error message, ta daa

Peter

Peter - that is a very cool fix indeed - Do you mind if I put a small article together about it for the help system?

I just checked and it is in the fonts folders for FSX, P3D v1 and P3D v2. How we failed to notice over all the years  Of course we matched the Font FS used but never occurred that it shipped with the Sim.

The ProKey works with ADE and works for any version that ADE supports - it is not version specific

There is one last post script to this. Now that I know where to find the font in a copy of the Sim then ADE can offer to install it to Windows if it is found missing. Thanks again Peter. This one has been around for quite a while and being able to close it down without messy downloads or manual instructions would be great. :)

EDIT
Better yet I might be able to embed the font into ADE so it will always be available but not installed in the main font collection in case the user does not want it there

Personally I would prefer if any font would be accessible from the main fonts folder of Windows. A while ago I wanted to install a clean version of FSX without loosing the old one and even without changing the installation path. I failed while trying to rename the old FSX folder as it was blocked by Windows due to fonts which where used by the operating system but sitting within FSX. It took me a while finding out the reason and even longer to unlock the folder in order to rename it.

The next version of ADE has the Arial Narrow font embedded in it as does not need to look for or use any external font. However the method given above to fix the issue does put the font in the main windows fonts and makes it available to any application that needs it

You should no longer need this font on your computer. Current versions of ADE have the font embedded in the application.

I was wondering, Jon,... You think you might be able to clean up the "Locked" messages,... it looks like a number of aircraft want to took off. ;)
