• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX batch convert and draw call

I successfully converted a collada file (dae?) to an mdl for FSX - made a library. Worked great. However......

Did the batch texture convert..... great!

Then did the draw call - worked great.

Went to check the folder where I put the textures.... they were all there..... all 170+ of them. Draw call reduced them down to about 45 or so. BUT- I still had the original 170 in the texture folder.

How can I keep the btch convert fropm putting all the textures in that folder until I have completed the draw call process.

In other words I want only the results of the draw call process in the texture folder..... not all the textures I started off with.

For now all I did was call up the window in MCX with the new list if textures and called up the window of the target texture folder and deleted the textures I did not see in the MCX window, manually. It did work. I have a nice object in my new library ready to place without any missing textures.

So- this did work but a tedious process. hahaha. I know I am missing a simple step somewhere. bob

Do the draw call work first, then the batch texture conversion?

Bob, you use FSDS, right? I use Sketchup. When I export a model to a dae file, I also get a folder with the same name as the dae file that contains all the textures. So I create Red_Hanger in Sketchup and export it and end up with Red_Hanger.dae and a Red_Hanger texture folder. Is it the same with FSDS? If so, I have a solution for you. :)

Hi Bob,

I think in this case it would be better to do the drawcall minimizing first. It also asks for a texture folder, that's where it puts the newly combined sheets. It will not save the unaltered textures. Those you would have to convert with the mass texture editor afterwards to the same folder.

What Arno said. When you export from FSDS it will create a texture folder. Create a second texture folder and run MCX. Use the second texture folder for the minimize draw call and batch conversion. You should end up with just the textures you need in the second folder.

will do. Point is to keep those puppies out of that finalo texture folder until I have done all my converting and such.... the final convert .... point THAT to the final texture folder. That way I get just one set of textures all tied up in a bow nicely.

No, not just the final convert. When you do the draw call minimize, point to the second folder. Then do the batch convert and again point to the second folder. You will not use the FSDS created folder at all when working with MCX.

Sid- understood. I wouldn't use fsds texture folder anyway. - too much stuff in there, but I now try to keep things in there that I am working on only- leaving my main library of textures to draw on and then manipulate in the FSDS texture folder, then do all the bmp amd mipmaps or dds. Then I will choose the ones I am working with and head over to MCX... do my thing and put 'em where they finally belong using the batch convert.

Basically what I am doing is making sure that my final product and only the final product makes it into the texture folder where they/it is going to be used. Bob
