• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Scenery design :)
First thing i need is to be pointed in the right direction in terms of software for FSX

Airports?
Creating your own scenery objects?
Enhancing Scenery by adding new objects, buildings an so on?
Terrain?
Mesh?

Scenery in FSX is a huge area so maybe we can narrow down where you would like to start

Scruffy asked the right questions...., choose one of his ideas and say "yes"....to start just choose one. then folks can begin to help you.

I want to enhance existing flight sim airports to make them more lifelike

For a start there are three software tools available for airport design in FSX:
  • AFX from Flight1 which is payware
  • FSX Planner which is freeware
  • Airport Design Editor (ADE) which is freeware
Both FSX Planner and ADE require that you have the FSX SDK so you will need either the DeLuxe or Gold Edition of FSX

There are several tools available to place objects at an airport to enhance it
  • Instant Scenery from Flight1
  • Airport Design Editor
  • SBuilderX (which is free for non commercial use)
  • Whisplacer which is freeware
  • and some of the older FS9 placement tools will work fine in FSX

For most airports some terrain work is needed. Tools for terrain work include:
  • SBuilderX which has powerful terrain design capabilities as does...
  • FSX KML (freeware)
  • ADE provides basic terrain design capabilities

There are a number of other important tools such as:
  • ModelConvertX which can take different types of object format and convert them to FSX format
  • LibraryCreatorXML that will take 3D models and put them into a library that can be used with the placement tools above
  • GMax, FSDS, Google Sketchup and others that can be used to design your own 3D models and objects
Most high quality enhanced airports are actually created using a £D design tool like GMax.

I am sure I have missed a bunch but there is a start.... :)

I think I just answered that...........

I would suggest you skim the fsx sdk as well, and read section thoroughly if you are going focus on that topic.
