• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Boundary Fence

I have created a shape poly of type - airport background with the flatten tag. I have put a small boundary fence along one side.

All appears fine in ADE 1.30 and the file complies correctly.

In FSX the poly and flatten appear correct but the boundary fence does not show up.

Can I use boundary fences in this manner?

Cheers

Hi Rennie

Yes that should work. but you are saying that the fence is not appearing in FSX? Is it on the flatten or beyond it? Is the altitude of the flatten the same as the reference altitude of the airport?

I have found that FSX does not consistently display boundary fences. It depends upon the angle from my eye point to the fence and which side of the fence I'm looking at.

The fence is always there, but it does not display at times and is frustrating. This behavior is identical in default airports and those I've modified or created from scratch with ADE.

It is on the flatten, the poly and fence vertex are set to
53.00m.

The reference airport is 25.60m.

Fence does not show in FSX.

Reading between the lines in your reply, I suspect that
I am using this feature incorrectly as the fence is not directly
on the main airport.

Hopefully the attached jpegs make it a little clearer.

Cheers

Hmmm - well boundary fences take on the altitude of the airport. If you flatten is at 53.00m and your airport is at 25.6m then the airport is bascially below ground - I'm suprised any of it shows up. Why do you have the two altitudes be set differently?

Jon

What I am trying to do is add a chain link fence, for example a
small or tiny boundary fence around my house. I have modeled
my house in FSDS 3.51 and inserted in FSX.

It sits on the flatten. I live less than 1KM from CYQQ
which is at 25.6m. You have to go uphill from the airport
to reach the elevation of the house which sits at 53.0m.

I think the answer lies in that boundary fences have to be
tied to the airport altitude to show up.

I am asking your fantastic program to do something it was not designed to do.

My thought process - make a poly - type airport background -
flatten to surrounding altitude - insert fence.

See attached jpeg.

This should all work except for the boundary fence. It needs to be associated with an airport and will be at the reference altitude of that airport. It should work if you use fence made up from library objects since the altitude of these can be set and they are usually set to be at ground level.

There are a lot of fences available though not specifically for FSX. FS9 fences should work and you can add the library containing them to ADE (version 1.30)

Thank you for your help.

Now I understand why they don't show up in FSX.

The only chain link fences I can find are lens ez walls & fences vol1.bgl.

I will try to add one of these as a library object.

You should be able to use that library
