• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Changing airport altitude, but taxiways appear sunken in the ground

Hey all,

My first forays into messing with default airport altitudes. I changed the airport altitude of KCHA to be 675: the airport is on a bit of a slope in real life, so in order to fit with my custom mesh, I decided to go with an average for the airport altitude. However, despite the fact that ADE made an ALT file which is in scenery/world/scenery, and despite the fact that I created a custom airport background (flatten + autogen exclude) in my AFCAD to set the surrounding terrain of the airport to the same altitude, it doesn't seem this flatten is working. My taxiways find themselves in a 6ft trench. It seems as though the default airport background keeps being used by the sim, rather than my own. The reason I suspect this is twofold: (1) The stock airport is at 681ft, and the difference between the trenched taxiways and the rest of the airport is about 6ft, and (2) when I'm looking at the edges of the plateau'd airport background, and noticed that it exactly matches that of the default airport (once loaded in ADE, looking at the boundary fence, this is also the outline of flat plateau I see in the sim, and this definitely does not match the flatten I defined in my AFCAD). So the summarize, even though the taxiways and runways find themselves at the new altitude (675ft), the rest of the terrain is still adhering to the default 681ft. I'm not sure how to override this...

Any ideas on what to do?

Cover the original airport background with an 'Exclude General' - 'Airport Backgrounds'.
It doesn't need to exactly cover the original background, sometimes just a little triangle in the centre will do the job.

Hah! That worked a treat, thanks!

I had looked at the excludes to see if there was anything useful, but didn't see anything that would tackle airport backgrounds, hence I posted here. I now understand that, at least in ADE, there's a bunch more types of excludes if you use the polygon tool. Do you have any idea if the same thing can be done in SBuilder? I now have two CVX files (one from SBuilder, the other from ADE), and I'd like to just have one?

I'm not a regular user of SBuilder but I think it may be 'Exclude All Airport Boundaries' in Properties of Vector Polygons.

Tom's obviously a faster typist ... :D

Am I blind...? I was sitting there staring for at least ten minutes and didn't see that option in the vector polygons... I'll have another look tonight. Thanks for getting those answers so quickly!
