• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Cockpit Re-texturing

Hi, Im new to all this and I need some advice :)

I just bought the BBA330/40 and the flight deck textures are appalling. I would like to know how to re-texture the panels for the VC in a way that I would be able to make the resolution higher and add readable text etc. I hope Photoshop and 3DS Max so that should not be a problem, just need to know where to get started :)

Cheers

Lewis

First, if you are asking about the resolution of the VC gauges themselves, it depends on if they are 2D gauges or 3D where that texture will be found. If 3D, the textures will be somewhere in the plane's texture folder, and you can increase the size of those textures (if smaller than 4096 x 4096) and repaint them to get higher resolution (this requires a cfg file tweak, I believe). You'll probably need to open them in a tool like DXTBmp. The only way I know to improve the 2D gauge textures is to increase the size of the dummy $ textures in the panel.cfg file. I don't know the largest allowable size in FSX.

If you mean the background panel textures, I don't have that plane but it would depend on how the panels are textured. Some earlier models use large panel/gauge polygons that are either transparent or have a a day texture found in the panel's folder. These are in 24 bit format.

Most later models use small VC gauge polygons (about the size of each gauge) and have separate VC panel textures inside the plane's texture folders. These would be handled in the same way as the 3D gauge textures.
