• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

ADE Compile error after move from 1.78 to 1.79

Hi all. I am certain this question has been asked before, but I'm damned if I can find the answer. Forgive an old guy for being a bit slow.

I recently moved all of my projects from ADE 1.78 to 1.79 Dev (Pro) v01.79.7475. I've successfully changed the Pro .dll (yes, caught the Windows security trap!), and changed all the preferences in Options to ensure that projects are saved and compiled to the right folders within 1.79. Loading and saving the .ad4 file is fine, but on trying to compile I get the message "Could not find a part of the path 'E:\MSFS\FS Design Tools\Airport Design Editor 178\[project name] (my bold). On checking the folder within 1.79, it shows that the airfield and CVX files have compiled, but the OBJ file has not (OBJ files are set to compile separately).

It's probably simple, and an obvious step, but I'd welcome a clue - along with a slap for being dull if appropriate!

Edit: I see I asked the same question a year ago! After some discussion, a re-install of ADE only partially sorted the issue. Given that I can keep P3Dv5 projects separate from v4 and FSX projects, I've reinstalled 1.78 and will use that for legacy non-v5 stuff rather than trying to do everything in 1.79. Fortunately, I have lots of disk space for the duplicated resources!

Edit 2. Having now reinstalled 1.78, and set its Options appropriately, compiling an airfield now works but saves the files to the project folder in 1.79!!

When you choose File/Compile, you get a dialog box (Compile Options). There is a text box called Compile Folder. This is where the compiled file will go. If you want to change that, click the Open Folder button below it and browse to the desired folder. You can get more options if you click the Advanced button and make a choice from the top of the resulting dialog box.

Tom, yes I know. The Compile folder is set correctly - and was all the way through. 1.79 compiles the basic airfield and CVX files to the correct folder, but refuses to compile the OBJ file, and comes up with the 'Could not find...' message. I have reset the destination folder many, many times, with no change in the behaviour. Reinstalling 1.78 and opening the ad4 file in that version allows a full save, but now - even though I have set the compile folder to the 1.78 P34 Project folder (in the Options dialogue and checked it via the text box you refer to) - it's saving to the P34 Project folder in 1.79! Now, that in itself isn't a problem as I now know where to look for the saved files, but it's a bit odd. I'd uninstall 1.79, but I do want to convert at least some of my airfields (and there are hundreds of them) to P35 over time.

It's possibly relevant that last week my C drive fried itself and I had to do a full Windows 10 reinstall on a new M2 drive. None of my flight simulator stuf, including ADE, was on the C drive, apart from the Program Data and (for those programs that use it) the Registry entries. It may be that I have to remove both installations of ADE and reinstall, but I was hoping to avoid that - as you can imagine, I'm a bit fed up with reinstalling stuff!

Well, I've again reinstalled both 1.78 and 1.79. I've copied all the P34 project files into both programs, checked all the save options, and now - fingers crossed - both programs are compiling correctly, into their respective Project folders. Do I now dare remove 1.78 again..?! I think I'll not bother, and just use 1.79 but leave 1.78 in place. Ah, the delights of computers on Sunday afternoons!

Don't remove 1.78 unless you have migrated any projects over to 1.79 successfully.
