• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX:SE Compiler Problem

I have installed the P3D SDK to use with the compiler for FSX Steam. I am having difficulties getting this work. I am trying to create the Tutorial Airport, but all I get in the sim is a slightly indented rectangle which is the size of the airport area, but which has the same texture as the desert.

I have compiled the airport using the FSX boxed SDK and successfully loaded this into the FSX Boxed sim.

Any help please?

Regards
John Earl

Sounds like the compiler, P3D SDK v1.4 worked correctly, but the textures aren't in the right place for the model.

Also, the above compiler, P3D SDK v1.4, shouldn't be working with any of the compiler or components that is a part of the FSX: Steam SDK. Should only be the P3D SDK

That is, if I understand what you are saying is correct.

Thanks for the reply. I dont really understand what you are saying.
I read in answer to another question that FSX Steam doesent have its own SDK and to use the P3D SDK. I downloaded the P3D SDK from a link contained in the answer. This is the SDK I am using and it doesent appear to work.

You didn't mention what you are compiling from (ex. ADE, Blender, or MCX). Are you sure you have the application pointing to the correct files?

You did install the P3D SDK v1.4? and not any of the other P3D SDKs?

I am trying to compile in ADE. Yes I am pointing to the correct files. I have the FSX boxed SDK installed and when I point to these files and use the compiler, the produced BGL files, when added to FSX boxed scenery (installed on seperate PC) works ok.

Try running, from within the P3D SDK, the ConfigSDK.exe. it is located in the root directory of the Prepar3D SDK 1.4.xxxxx folder.

Im sorry but your last suggestion means nothing to me.

If I run the configsdk.exe, all it asks me is if I want to update some files to reflect the current P3D installation path. I dont have P3D installed.

You should also find an error log or error msg within ADE on why it is not compiling. Have a looked under the root folder of the Sim you compiling for. If you are not sure what do, take a screen shot of the folder.

I think it would help if you told us the exact error message (take a screenshot of it) that you are seeing.

Also attach your ADE project to a post here so we can try to replicate the problem

You are correct that FSX:SE ships without a SDK for reasons which have never been that clear. MS licensed the sim but not the SDK

I would not use any FSX SDK especially the original one. As already stated the best thing is to use the P3D v1.4 SDK,

There are no error messages. When I select "compile airport", after a few seconds it reports "airport compiled", yet when I add the area to FSX Steam it isnt there. Using exactly the same procedure for FSX Boxed everything works fine (when using the supplied SDK of course).

I have abandoned trying to use it with Steam and will use it with the Boxed version.

Thanks for your help.

John Earl
