• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

hi guys,
I used MCX to convert my aircraft carrier from obj to FS9 Mdl and all worked well
than I imported my new FS9 MDL ship I saw her on MCX as preview, as usual, so I decided to convert to FSX mdl .....MCX gave me a series of errors and I'm not able to convert
do you have any suggestion? ( ah I would like to say I converted this file in a .x file and worked well )
waiting for an answer
regards

Please list the exact error messages here, and a copy of the resulting log at the bottom of the MCX screen.

Ok I will, in meantime I have an other trouble
see what I have in FS9

it seems as a ghost ship....
textures are all dxt3 and I suppose I wrong the conversion from native .tga to extended BMP
suggestions?
regards

Load your extended bitmap(s) into DXTBmp and look at the alpha channel (small image in the upper right). Many times during a TGA to BMP conversion the alpha channel will become corrupted. It should either match the pattern of the texture, be solid gray, or be solid white.

right!!!
I'm correcting the textyre and something works better,
when I'll finish to correct I show the ship.
thanks so much
regards

I tried to export using panda soft exporter plugin it seems to export BUT when I try to see my ship with MCX it give an error and all stop
can help : see the attached file

First - MakeMDL.exe is a part of SDL so if you launch a research on your disk under Flight Simulator SDL directory you should find it.
Second - if you encounter problems with 3DS, why you don't export your carrier in *.3ds and use Gmax to compile your MDL, it should be more simple ... 3DS max is very interesting during modelisation phase but if this phase is finish you don't have any raison not to continue under Gmax.

Frst: I found MakeMDL it is in D:\Programmi\FS2004SDK\MakeMDL_SDK and it has about 1000 bites is it the correct file?
Second: The main problem is to export using acestools it seems to export well with animations....but If I want see the .x file with MCX this program gives error....see errorlog in previous thread and stop importing file procedure---> why?
If I will be able to use Acestools this program gives the possibility to export animations and effects directly....from 3ds max 9 so I would like to understand why I cannot see the .x file exported with this tool and why I cannot see this object with MCX.
all my best

Hi,

It seems you use scaling animations. These are not supported by fs, that's why MCX also doesn't support them.

You can only do translate and rotate animations.

@arno,
can you show me How I have to set up aces tools in the verify and export sections to export properly please?
regards

Sorry I don't use 3ds max, so I don't know.

Cobber,
I don't understand, you want a lot of answer but every time that somebody give some elements you change of subject.

On the subject of th errorlog, Arno says you what you have scaling animation, so in your program delete theses animations and try to export again.
I saw alson that somme material are not found by the compiler so try to find theses ones and repair the mapping to another compilation.

My turn to ask a question why export to FS2004 if the goal is to have an object for FSX ? It would be easier to install the FSX SDK in order to export the file and then use XtoMDl.exe to create an FSX object.

@Lagaffe
first of all I'm trying to export for fs2004 and later for fsx
Aces-tools export in .x format
on my object I do not have any animation...but may be when exported the animation flag was active so it will be fine to know how to use aces tools section parameters
I'm repairing and mapping easier my object you right it is what I'm doing
My deal is to see a .x file, exported with aces tool, using MCX for this I asked How use aces tools.
to morrow I will try again when I finished to reapair all
all my best
Cobby
