• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Creating a blast fence

Hello Jon,

Probably a silly question, but I looked and couldn't find a solution. When I create a simple blast fence using the menu button by setting the first and last points, and then I select the pointer arrow, the blast fence disappears. How do I make the blast fence stick?

thanks.

All line drawing modes need a double click to finish things off. So select the Blast Fence mode and click to start the fence. Click for any further points and for the last one double click and the fence should be made.

To add kagazi,
make sure you double click fast enough to get it to show
i had a problem with this at the beginning :D.........
and you can also reverse the fence if shows the wrong angle
by highlighting the fence then right click to show the menu,
but you probably knew that :)

Thank you Ray. I have recently made the switch (officially) from another freeware airport design tool and I'm in the early stages of exploration here. I plan to work my way through the excellent tutorials that are available here to begin the ADE journey.

Feel free to ask any questions as you go along

Hello Jon,

Are the blast fence sizes/types available in ADE 1.2? I modified two huge blast fences to make then tiny but no change in fsx. I also created new a small blast fence but it shows huge in fsx.

Thanks.

Hi Kagazi,

I like to quote Jim, who has answered this question some time ago:

There are only 2 blast fences in FSX that will show up on a consistent basis. The 1 part and the 3 part. The 1 part is a small one and the 3 part is a large one. If you choose any other type blast fence there is no rule in FS on which one you will get. It becomes a gamble at that point.

ADE offers the choice according to what the SDK says. But this is one of the cases where the SDK and the FSX reality don't match.

So you should get a small one selecting the first from the ADE list box and a large one when you choose the second one.

FSX can call 8 different Blast Fences but there are only 2 different types (textures) available. The 2 available are

{199A1A9C-FA7C-4ef2-8EEA-E4FE6CCD3FC7} Generic 1-part Blast Fence (Small)
{863E1B24-CAFB-4626-B240-EA0E8213A33B} Generic 3-part Blast Fence (Large)

In ADE we listed those 2 first in the Blast Fence list. All the others in the list have to be there because FSX uses the following GUID's to call the 2 different types. If ADE did not list these additional Blast Fences then we would not be able to show the only 2 that do exist (textures) on the Grid.

I can only assume that ACES had entended to make textures for many different type Blast Fences because the GUID's are in place (listed below) but the textures did not make it in time.

FSX uses all the GUID numbers for the 2 Blast Fences which can cause a problem. If you select any Blast Fence other then the first 2 listed in ADE you will only get the small one or the large one at random.

If you select any of the following in the menu then only the 2 Blast fences that actually exist will once again be a random call.

{672FE79D-8F61-4f30-9C79-EC5755212F2A} Default blast fence grouping
{91CE5D88-59B9-41e2-9776-B371490FC378} Tiny Blast Fence
{28C633DA-8926-48aa-B467-30799560462E} Small Blast Fence
{A8BEB882-F11F-4743-B09B-34F45F380802} Medium Blast Fence
{5B05E5FC-915B-4c87-A31D-615BC9DBF1AB} Large Blast Fence
{BAFC77D3-FA52-4cc2-B713-7609560BB026} Huge Blast Fence

The Boundary fences work the same way. Once again there are only 2 you can ask for and those are listed first in the ADE fence menu.

{A825DE17-9AD3-4e40-8DA3-2CE71A0D7E5C} 5 Meter Chain-link with wire
{02D65B05-F752-47a3-83AF-D570243EB3EE} 5 Meter Chain-link with Bent Top

If you select any of the following in the menu then only the 2 fences that actually exist will once again be a random call.
