FSX Custom Apron & ADX

Hello :-)

I want to create a custom apron poly with custom textures (using Sketchup). Further more I want use ADX to create the taxi and parking lines. Is this possible?

I have noticed that I can see the lines when the poly is blank (without textures) If I add the custom textures the lines are away. Probably I have something to add in the layer options (ground polygon) of MDX?

Thank you!

Holger

If it's a custom apron I guess you must make a polygon for him, then you will not see the Ade taxilines or any other featrure, then you should make them, drawing on the polygon, or making lof, there are a few tutorial about all this.

Hi Holger,

I think we need some more details of what you are trying to do!
If you want to add an apron poly, it would have to be a ground polygon (as Bernardo explained).
You can make and add a ground poplygon using ModelconverterX.
But I am not sure what you mean.

Hi Holger,

Custom ground polygons cover the default airport scenery. So that means all runways, taxiways and markings are covered by those polygons. If you want to see them, you have to draw them as part of your custom ground polygons.

Thanks for the replies!

I only want to generate the apron (not the runway or taxi ways). I already built the polygon using sketchup. I also added a custom texture to the polygon and converted it to a fsx bgl.

I added this bgl to the FSX and first forgot the texture to add. Without the texture I could see the lines from the ADX afcad on the black polygon.

So my idea was that there could be a way to see the afcad lines even when I add a custom texture. I thought it could probably done with MCX in a special texture priority setting or so ...

Following Arnos words it seems not to be possible :-(

What is the best way to do it with sketchup?
Is there a good tutorial or thread? I only found gmax tutorials.

Thanks,
Holger

Hi,

Take the bmp of the apron texture. Open it in your paint program and make the markings (lines) transparent.

Thank You!

I also thought in that way but I have no idea how i can do that!?

When I open the bmp, I don´t know where the markings are located because I have no reference. Is there a way to do it in sketchup? Drawing over the fotoreal areal?

Thanks,
Holger

Hi,

No, Sketchup is not a paint program.
What you could do, I guess, is to cut out the apron part of the photoreal, open this bmp in your paint program, make everything transparent except your lines and markings, improve your lines and markings by drawing them over.
Use this bmp as an extra layer on top of your apron texture.
Then use this texture bmp in Sketchup so you can place it correctly on your SU made polygon and make it a ground polygon again with MCX.

I have one more question ;-)

I use a a tool (airport wizard) which can modify the markers which I have created with AFX (colors, wide etc.)

The problem is that the modified markers got a new priority and that they now over my own custom made markers as you can see on the pic. Is there option in MCX which can give my markers the highest priority (or a diffrent way)? I would prefer that the numbers are over the lines which is the case when I use the default AFX lines. I already the the scenery to the highest priority in FSX because I have noticed that the airport wizard has also a entry in the fsx scenery libary.

Thank You!

Hi,

I don't know how Airport Wizard places the lines. You could try to give your markings a higher layer in the MCX ground polygon wizard. But since I don't know how the lines are made, I am not sure if it will work.

You could also try creating a new Markings/scenery:texture folder setup, put the placement BGL file and textures for your markings into those folders, and then create a new Scenery layer for that folder higher than the Airport Wizard layer (in the Scenery Library). Worth a try?

Thanks Arno & Tom!

Unfortunately both don´t help :-(

Airport Wizard has a entry in the scenery libary. In the associated folder one can found a bgl and a dat. file for each AFX file which I have modified with Airport Wizard. Seems that this new bgl file replace the AFX.bgl file as long as it is modified by Airport Wizard.

I copied the Airport Wizard File into my airport folder, remove the AFX file and it still works even when I deactivate the Airport Wizard in the FSX Libary. Unfortunately it doesn´t solve my problem. The lines are still over the marker!

I already created a new folder for the markers and gave the markers a higher layer (MCX) set it to a higher position than the airport in the fSX libary.

I have no further ideas :-(

What a pity because it is a very fast and comfortable way to create nice taxi lines and parking positions.

Hi,

If you can send me a BGL as made by Airport Wizard I can maybe take a look why the markings show below it.

It appears to me that Airport Wizard must be installed to view these objects, so I don't know how the BGL files are constructed, or if they are "normal"?

Would be nice Arno but I don´t know if I´m allowed to do so because the Airport Wizard comes along with it´s own custom textures!?

If it is not a problem where can I upload the files?

Thanks,
Holger

Put one of the BGL files into a zip file and post it here (click the Manage Attachments button below your message as you are typing it). Arno doesn't usually need the textures.

Hope this helps,

Hi,

These markings are placed as MDL objects. That means that they will always be on top of the custom ground polygons you have made.

Maybe times using MDL objects for ground polygons or lines gives flickering, so it seems the Airport Wizard author found a good balance between raising the objects above the ground the prevent this and still looking good.

Thank you for your effort Arno!

So that means the only way is to also raise up my custom objects?

The good thing is that the lines of course also over my custom made apron poly. So it is a very easy way to build a custom apron with custom lines. A solution for the markers and it would be perfect :)

Thanks,
Holger
