• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Cut & Paste Functionality

Just completed my first revised airport using ADE: KCMH. During my redesign, I kept wishing there were a copy/paste function for the many objects with which I was working. It would have saved a lot of time.

If it's currently a function, I couldn't seem to get it to work (ctrl-c,ctrl-x,or ctrl-v).

Thanks.

No there is no cut an paste function in ADE at the moment. What sort of objects would you want to copy?

It would have been helpful if I could have cut/paste guides as I was lining up the various objects, instead of having to create multiple guides, size them the same, and give them the same direction.

I did this most when I was aligning taxiways, paths, around the airport and in relation to the tarmac, and making them parallel, perpendicular, etc. to other objects.

You can make one Guide and then hightlight it and move it around.

You can also grab one end of the Guide line and rotate it around the opposite end. If I remember you can even lenghten or shorten after moving in case it is not the correct size for your alignment to whatever comes next.

A guide line rotates from the begining draw point where as a runway you can rotate around the center lat/lon point for tweaking a heading if needed. But be aware of cautions posted in other post here if you change the heading of a runway.

Yes, I've done that as well. However, when I need to use two guides with the same properties, it would be easier to be able to cut & paste versus create another guide. Or if I want an apron with the same dimensions as another, instead of having to recreate that apron, it would be nice to be able to cut & paste.

An example

Here is an example of where I used multiple guides to help position and size various objects. For this, I had to recreate several guides with the same heading (274.2) and length to make sure revised taxiways were parallel to the runway, and to make sure the asphalt base below the runway was aligned and dimensioned correctly.

Thanks Bob

Just wanted to be sure you were aware of all the current Guide options.

I can ask the team for additional information based on copy/paste. This might have already been discussed or other ares that might need the same technique added.

I do recall something once as a option in this area put it might have fallen through the cracks.

Don't get me wrong, I loved using guides (probably too much). I wanted my taxiways exactly parallel to the runway heading. That required at least two guides to measure distances at both ends and another long guide to run down the middle so I could align all the taxiway segments between.

I would take measurements in real life and come back to the editor and set the guides to the exact measurements and began my realignments. Again, copy/paste would have been very helpful here.

After looking at your picture I can tell you what I do in that situation. It might not work for you.

I make sure the start location and a runway such as 27 has exactly the same heading. I "Go To" that runway and slew down each side of the runway to confirm the plane tracks a straight line.

I add a guide for distance purpose and then use slew to set nodes and then link nodes or aprons. As long as you slew left/right or back/forth any type raxiway or apron line will be accurate based off the side texture line of the runway. This also insures straignt taxiway lines that are in perfect parallel and or aprons on each side of the runway.

I do think that we need to revisit your request and see what others on the team also recommend in this area.
