• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Delete account

It is SO nice to know that we are appreciated :)

I've never understood the rationale for anyone requesting their account be deleted*. Just don't bother coming back. Simple solution.

*NOTA BENE: Unless the person is just wanting to "make a statement"...

Just as a point of procedure. If anyone does want their account deleted then please PM me. Putting it into a thread risks it not being seen - in Paul's case that is likely to be a blessing of course :)

Bill - the other thing is that deleting an account does not remove any of the posts or messages that the person created.

I guess it's like someone finding offense with something on a particular TV station and complaining about it when they could just change the darn channel.

Hi Jon,
You are right that a PM would be the proper protocol.

And thanks...in general.

Why not have a button under Personal Settings allowing a user to deregister all by himself, without having to hunt for such a button, or open a thread such as this one, or writing a PM, and having to look up somebody to send it to?

That's simply not a feature of the forum software we use. And since we only get very few requests for account removal it would be a waste of time to spend effort on creating something like that.

"Sensitive Personal Information" is a term used in US privacy law. Websites store it, hackers mine it, people manage it. It's that simple.

What do they have to hide? Their FS interest?
Bet they have also been on other forums, USGS sites, etc,
Are they all going to ask them to delete their information? Including Google, Microsoft, etc?
They wanted to make a statement, that is for sure. The "why", is the question.
In short, I would not bother. I would even deny their deleting their content and the few particulars they put in.
Sometimes the admins are too nice (particularly in my respect:)).

Beyond PCI: The New Standard for Securing Data

What is PII?
PII stands for Personally Identifiable information. As defined by the U.S. Office of
Management and Budget (OMB), PII is information which can be used to distinguish or
trace an individual’s identity, such as their name, social security number, biometric records,
etc. alone, or when combined with other personal or identifying information which is linked
or linkable to a specific individual, such as date and place of birth, mother’s maiden name, etc.

PII versus PCI

The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) only addresses payment card data security and does not
address PII data security. While payment card data is a form of PII and needs to be protected, it is but just one form.
All forms of PII must be protected

Preventative Best Practices
Know what PII you have

▲ Assess your systems and operations to identify all PII being processed, accessed or stored in electronic or
physical forms
If you don’t need it, don’t collect or store it!
▲ Only request information essential to conduct business; don’t request PII from your customers, vendors
or employees unless absolutely necessary
▲ When PII is needed to conduct business, don’t store the data unless absolutely necessary
Create a culture
of compliance

▲ Do not engage in deceptive or unfair trade practices
▲ Maintain a policy that addresses information security for all employees, customers and vendors
▲ Conduct a risk assessment and periodic reviews to ensure company policies, procedures and practices
adhere to best practices and standards of care for all PII
▲ Ensure contracted third-parties with access to PII adhere to established standards and policies
▲ Establish and publish a privacy policy and follow it; use the data for what you state you will use it for and
nothing more
▲ Inform customers of what information you will NEVER request from them
Provide customers consent and choice (opt-in/opt-out) options

If we receive a request to delete an account then we will do it. At the moment that does not delete all the content of the user being deleted. I guess there can be personal information in those posts. Should we have to remove posts from deleted users then it could lead to a degrading of the usefulness of the forums. I lived in Saudi Arabia for many years and we used to have our foreign newspapers censured by the simple method of cutting out the offending stuff - which removed the non offending stuff from the back and sometimes led to the paper being sold in a bag to hold the collection of disconnected pices of paper.
