• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi Arno

A display problem in the very latest as per attached.
The top surface of the object base is filled in if importing with your released version 1.0.
Results when viewed in FS9/FSX are the same.

Hi Iain,

It seems your attachment is missing, so I can't see your problem.

Hi Arno

I thought I had edited my post to say that I had mailed the attachment as, not for the first time, I was not able to get the attach file to work with my forum post.

Iain

OK, I did not see your email yet, let me double check.

Hi Iain,

I can't find your email, so would you mind sending it again?

Hi Iain,

I still did not get it. Is it a big attachment or so that might give trouble?

Your bug is not similar as the flipped normal problem also reported recently? I am looking into that one already.

Hi Arno

I'll try here with a reduced size image.
This is an api file imported into ModelconvertorX latest build. If imported using your release 1.0 then the base of the object shows with the top duly coloured.

Hi Iain,

If you can send me the macro I will test. I don't think I changed much on the API reader recently, so I would have to search where the problem is.

Hi Arno,
many thanks for your work! It's really a very nice tool :)
Today i have imported an FSX aicraft to test a few things and as i had saved the model, i noticed that the file size was more than twice the size of the original. I noticed the bigger file size before with other models but the difference wasn't that huge.
Am i doing something wrong? :o
Thanks in advance and sorry if that has been asked already.

Hi,

You loaded a FSX aircraft MDL file and also saved it as FSX MDL again? Actually I would expect the file size to be smaller, since most aircraft animations and other specific features are not exported correctly at the moment. So that it gets a lot bigger surprises me a bit.

Which aircraft did you test it with? Maybe I can try to reproduce the problem.

I imported Tim Conrad's Zlin Z-50L because i wanted to try to add a normal map - please don't tell him :o
In the preview window it seemed that the animations did work and i got no warnings or errors. But the file size was over 2MB and the original model is only about 800KB.

Aircraft animations will be read in correctly, but I never got them to export correctly again. So editing textures as you try to do is not going to work I think at the moment. I hope to learn more about the aircraft animations later so that I can improve that.

About the size, I would have to check that. I would not expect such a big increase, although the optimization might be slightly different for the X file that ModelConverterX makes.

Possibly answered before, but is this not possible for an FS9 .BGL, it would be usefull in my case as i have FS9 .BGLs with buildings but no longer have the source files ?

Hi,

Yes, the FS2004 MDL import is working. But currently there is a bug in it that causes many polygons to be flipped. I am working on that.

I am closing this thread, as it gets very hard to follow with all the different topics being discussed. For future problems with the development release please open a new thread for each issue.
