• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

ADE distance limitations for ADE roads

I have been trying to find an answer to this question for ages and can't get anyone to give me a straight answer without having to upload this, link that, etc... All I want to know is...what is ADE's distance limitation for drawing roads. I've drawn some roads and they tend to just disappear after so far from the ARP. I want to know just how far from the ARP can one draw a road without it just vanishing. That is all I want to know, I don't need no work done, just a simple answer to a simple question. I've tried to calculate it myself, but I can't get even a straight up answer to another question. How many feet in any direction, are the squares in the ADE grid?

Hi Tom:

I have previously linked you to the info you asked about; the most recent reply (which repeats that info) ...was just posted here:

According to Jon Masterson (author of ADE): ADE uses no Geographic units for the Grid it displays on top of the ADE workspace.

The lines in ADE? Well they are just a grid that represents latitude and longitude. They are not related to any of the areas that FS uses to determine coverage of things like terrain exclusions. So I have nothing helpful to say :o Sorry

Life will really become complicated if you are forced to calculate Geographic Arc Degrees converted to Meters or Feet on the ground.

IMHO, it will be easier to learn how to display scenery in SDK TMFViewer and/or SBuilderX with the SDK TMF Quad Grid displayed on one's scenery.

Again, a quick reference table for converting SDK TMF Quad Grid sizes to Meters on the ground ...is here:

I believe that is as straight an answer as one might get when dealing with size of scenery objects within the FSX 3D world model. ;)

As for where / when scenery objects "vanish", there are many possible causes ...which is why ACES and other FS Developers make no commitment.

One must troubleshoot project display issues methodically, and in some cases, purposeful tests must be run.

But, sometimes the answer may be found, and display issues avoided, by RTFM'ing before attempting to "Learn by Doing" ...at great cost in time.

I've tried to figure out the vanishing roads thing for EVER and could never figure it out. I'm just going to drive the roads that are vanishing, then mark the locations in ADE and just use that as a boundry and move everything beyond that boundry to a spot above the boundry. I'm not even going to try and figure out why it happens or how to stop it, I'm just going to work around it. I only wanted to know the size of the grid squares, (which I found BTW) so I can make a MAP of the entire project and design myself a 'mile marker' so I can use that as a reference as to how far out something or any particular place is from point A to point B, I wasn't going to try and use that info to calculate anything but how far things are from each other. It don't have anything to do with the project design, it's only for informational purposes.
