• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I downloaded the dotnet framework 2.0 on Wndows XP that the FSX SDK requires because Autogen was telling me it was "unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application".

I have dotnet framework 4 that some other program apparently req'd". (can't remember what)

Trying to reinstall this version 2.0 gets me a msg that says this is not a valid win32 application....??????/

I am wondering whether one can have two separate dotnet frameworks installed on a system.
I am wary about dropping framework 4 until I hopefully get some input from others with more system expertise.

Attempts at System Restore to fix this made my system behave strangely.
 
you MUST install each version of the framework separately. V4 does not contain V2 and applications built using V2 will not look for V4 and use that. So on my system I have 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0.

Are you sure that the message related to the NET framework or did it refer to the C++ redistributable. As far as I know no SDK tools nor FS needs or uses the NET framework.

Is your XP 32bit or 64bit? The error message you describe can arise where an application or other component has been compiled specifically for one platform and is trying to use components compiled for another

dotnetframework question...

In the FSX SDK it advises you to install framework 2.0 so when autogen gave me an error msg, I went after it. When i downloaded it, the icon was the little command window icon, and the extension was exe. What I discovered after I posted was that it was a zipped file which after I unzipped and installed the autogen error msg went away. I was under the impression that zipped files would be more visibly descriptive. :eek: Another hard won painful lesson....:rolleyes:


I also understand that it might be good practice to install more versions of framework.
