• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

double transparency

Hi,

I have this problem with (semi)transparency in a sketchup building:
It is a foursided building with three semitransparent windows (partly reflecting the outside scenery, partly the inside texture) that can be looked at from the front, the rear, the sides but also from the inside.
What happens is that when you look at it from the front, everithing is as it should be, but from the side, when two transparent windows are in view, it becomes too transparent, let alone when I view it from the inside as then I have almost complete transparency.
Do not know if this is only a Sketchup problem as it probably is a MCX material setting problem as well, but I would be grateful for somebody giving me a clue as to where to find an answer.

Thanks beforehand,

Roby

Hi Roby,

I am not completely sure I understand the question. Can you maybe show a picture of the problem?

Do all your polygons use a transparent texture or do you also use transparent colors?

Hi Armo,

I will send you the zipped file once I am back home next week.
(The .skp file is almost 5 Mb plus extra textures).
Thanks,

Roby

Do you have window polygons facing inside as well as outside? If not, the windows from the inside will be perfectly clear. All polygons are single sided.

Hope this helps,

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion but, yes, I do have the window polygons textured both sides.
The problem crops up when you look through two windows one behind the other.
Lacking my present ability of including pictures of what I mean, try to imagine two square buildings next to eachother and with each three out of the 4 walls semi-transparent (the backsides are not). When looking at them from the side you will therefore look through 4 windows, and when inside one of them and looking sideways, you still look through 3 windows.
I hope this explains it a little better?

PS I do not use transparent colors, only (self made) textures.

Multiple transparent surfaces are a nightmare... Is this for FS9 or FSX?
