1) I have no idea what this is about but since I did find this folder in my P3d v2 I am letting the forum know.

2) I'm not clear whether I should combine/store "projects" for both FSX and P3d in the same projects folder or should I create a new folder for P3d or does it matter?

There is an effects.cfg in programdata\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2\ which enables one to have effects stored in multiple folders.

Hi George,

Thanks for your response but I'm afraid I'm still not sure what to do with this folder and why the ADE message asks me to notify the forum if I found it.

It needs to be dealt with somehow since ADE will load but without any Effects info.

The msg could use a little more enlightenment for the less enlightened!

The reason it appears is that on startup ADE looks for a folder called Effects located inside the FSX or P3D main folder. If it can't find it then it reports that and stops trying to display effects information - if the folder is not where it should be and ADE tries to access it - then it will crash. I have no other explanation other than if ADE cannot find an Effects folder in the main FS folder as specified in Settings < Options > Folders then it displays this message. Why the folder is missing will depend on your setup. I am not sure what more the message could say - I looked for this folder - I could not find it - it should be there so please check why it isn't

You installed P3D on your Computer. As per my picture you must have a folder in your main P3D folder that is named Effects. This folder has all the effects that are are used in the default P3D. You may have accidently moved the Effects folder with a drag of the mouse so look for it in one of the folders above and below where it should be.

ADE is saying this folder does not exist

It needn't necessarily be in the main folder.

P3D v2.5 uses the effects.cfg which is in \programdata\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2\.

The default entry does point to the P3D main folder, but it may not.

Code:
[Entry.0]
Path=Effects

and there may be more than one entry.

The Effects Folder was where it was supposed to be in D:\P3d.

But the Options/Settings were set by me to C:\MSFS where ADE resides in my mistaken confusion that since I could find no separate ADE P3d Projects Folder in order to retrieve and save projects for P3d it seemed C:\ MSFS\...\Projects was the obvious location to enter in Settings.

However, now that it's confirmed that P3d uses and finds the Projects Folder on a different drive, my second question at the start of this thread has now also been answered and I have been led from darkness into light on both issues with my thanks to all.

OK - so ADE is out of date on that one. I will add it to the project work list.

Jim,

If I remember correctly, I was surprised to not find an effects folder the normal place after a P3D install. But it somehow showed up later. Maybe because an addon install put it there? Is this connected with LM moved several known folders out of the main folder? Think I have seen both \Addon Scenery and \Effects showing up after addon installs. They were not there vanilla.

That could be true. I noticed P3D has moved some folders and added additional .cfg's in the programdata\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2\ that FSX did not have.

My Effects folder does have some FlyTampa data so it may have been added to the main P3d folder at a later date.

The default effects are in the main P3D folder and may be overwritten by hotfixes.

The preferred method is to store non-default effects in a different folder and add an entry in the effects.cfg

As per posted in FSDeveloper, my P3DV3 has the effect folder created during installation, however ADE170 keeps saying that it can not find the effects folder in the FS installation.

Go to the P33 folder in the main ADE folder. Look for settings.ini Delete it to force ADE to show the new user wizard. Start ADE for P3D v3 and complete the wizard. Close and restart ADE. See if that helps.

Scruffy I can only find a Settings folder in the main ADE folder. There is no Settings.ini Are you saying to delete the settings folder? Please advice.

There is no such file along the list. However clicked Settings properties and it reads Configuration settings(.ini) So what I hace to delete is Settings, correct.
Since I wasn't sure I placed it on my desktop to have it handy, then clicked on ADE170 it opened and before doing anything, the pop up appeared, ADE can not.......

I am not sure what you are doing but it does not sound right. I am about to get on a plane and won't be able to get back to this for a day or so.
