• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Perhaps someone has already noticed this, but I can no longer set default transparent!!!

Even in a library I aready changed a few days ago with MCX shows as if I hadn't changed the trans yet.

In the game my library I modified looks fine... good trans's. However, I open that very library in MCX- it shows as if I never changed the trans!

I then try to change the trans to default trans but nothing happens.

I repeated this process withi my friend who has an old copy of MCX... viola! he can 'set default transparent' just fine. Bob

Hi,

Are you using the latest development release? I fixed a bug on Tuesday that resulted in the transparency being incorrect in the preview.

I am using the latest right now. I am havnig a problem with the trans.

Before I upgraded I had no problem.

I think I did some work on Tuesday... saw the upgrade notice but finished my work before I upgraded to the latest.

Later I upgraded.... the next time I used it... this morning (Thurs) this problem seems to be happening. Bob

Maybe you can describe the problem a little more. Do all transparent areas show as black in the preview, even while the material editor has the right settings for transparency?

1. with previous version, modified trans in each object as necessary so trans showed "greater" instead of "never". Each time I would instantly see trees or fences black 'suround' disappear so they showed normal.

2. exported the object.

3. did 1 & 2 with all objects necessary and made my own library.

4. Used this new library in my scenery (using in same scenery original library is- old FS9 scenery) Plan to remove originial library when all objects are replaced. All objects in my new library show up fine.... and still do.

5. Next day I installed the latest update.

6. following day after that I found that i had missed a transparency in the glass of the tower. This also has some fence showing. Fence looks fine in my library but the glass is what I missed.

7. In MCX I opoened the original library again to find this object with the tower and fencing in it. I of course found it and of course the fence shows black and the tower glass is opaque as expected.

8. In material editor i found the textures and clicked on "set default transparent"..... nothing happened. Tried this with the tower glassw - nothing happened.

9. This is when I told my friend to try it. (He has the original library also.) with his old version of MCX it worked... the fence cleared up and so did the glass.

10. At this point he does not have my new library. Could it be that haviong both libraries on the same scenery (my machine) might be causing problems?

11. I just tried opening a totally different library from another FSX scenery- one of my own which I know the trans works. Trans has the black surround.... found the texture- "set default trans" - nothing changed yet I know this shows fine in the game. Interesting, huh?! Bob

I just downloaded and installed an earlier version... the one I had just before the latest.... I believe.

Still same problem. something terribley wrong with my machine I think.. Bob

This is often due to a video driver update - did you do anything similar recently?

Hi,

I suddenly have the same problem. but I am on my laptop and presumed it is due to the fact that I may not have all things necessary on it to have transparency shown.
But I am wondering.

Hi,

Might be there is another bug left in my tool. Could any of you who has the problem send me an object (plus textures) so that I can check if I can reproduce the problem.

Have not changed anything concerning video driver or anything else. I thought of that too, but NA.

Win 7 sometimes I get error notes- task scheduler engine has stopped.... or something about surrogate has stopped, but none of these has affected me so far.... I think.

Fairly new OS on my machine..... installed by the store.

good to hear some others are having similar problems. Bob

Hi,

Well, whatever I try to open, it always gives me opaque textures.
I only have FS9 on my laptop but just try to load an aircraft mdl and you will see for yourself.

Roby

PS I did update the graphics card (Nvidia Geforce 9100M G) recently.

Hi,

For the FS2004 aircraft that is by design at the moment. The same texture is used for the specular reflection and therefore I am not using the alpha channel for reflection. I still have to study the FS2004 MDL files more to see how to determine when to use the alpha and when the specular.

But for objects that have no specular map, I see the transparency correctly here.

Hi Bob,

Something was wrong with my build server, so that meant that the development release was not updated correctly. So the fixes I made for transparency issue never got into the development release. Can you try with the latest development release from today (should be online in 30 minutes from now). I think that will solve your issues.

Glad to hear that helped :).

Arno- I just noticed..... in material editor, the set default trans and set default opaque buttons are missing!!!!!

AHA! not missing just sitting on top of the window, but I see no "set default opaque, and no 'close' button (which is not necessary).

It sounds like you might have changed your Windows font display size for such things as dialog boxes. I don't know where to change that back, but several programs have problems with that.

tom- It seems that the window format of MCX changed. I haven't changed anything on my end. also- mass converter is incorporated in this same window. Now I have to figure out how to use it again. <G> such as rename textures, update, etc. Maybe a new video tutorial would be nice. Bob

Hi Bob,

Check this thread for the new video tutorial:

http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=336290

In the combobox at the top you should have two options: Set Default Transparent and Set Default Opaque. Just like the buttons before.

If the Set Default Opaque is missing, can you check if you have a templates folder inside the folder where ModelConverterX is installed?
