• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

I am trying to help a friend configure his copy of mcx. Through options I got him set up, but I am missing something somewhere. I can exprot object and or export scenery. He tries and gets this arror message. I can't remember where to go to get him corrected. See attachment.

Why do you have saved in a "program files" area? Compiled files should be outside the "program files" folder, like the documents folder: which can be saved within the addon scenery folder.

Hi,

As the error message says, the user that is running MCX does not have permission to write in the program files folder. That's the default Windows behaviour for that folder.

So either the user has to get permission to write there, or you need to run MCX as admin (not really advised). Personally I always install my FS/P3D outside of the program files folder to prevent issues like this.

I will look into this. I could not see very well due to his screen sharing. I truly thought he was trying to save to addon scenery/ scenery name/ scenery. I will report back what I find.

Is this because his installment in in C drive? I have mine in a separate drive in program files there, then p3dv4.4\addon scenery\file name\scenery which has worked for years. He should not be using drive C? If this is so, perhaps he can compile his bgl to Desktop then he can move the file to his p3d\addon scenery\ file name?

I often do that - compile to the desktop and move to the proper location.

No. His installment is correct and C: is fine. It is where he is trying to compile it, inside the "Program files" folder. That is a no, no.

Either the desktop or elsewhere, such as the documents folder.

That will work as well. I installed p3d and fsx and previously fs9 to a drive away from C drive.Very easy to fill ujp tghe main drive. I leave that to Windows and small installed programs. But yes, compile to desktop from mcx- export object or scenery THEN drag that puppy over to your desired scenery in p3d. Thanx for everyone's help.
