• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Excluding objects

I am trying to replace a bridge whis has been included in FS 2004. The default bridge is not very realistic.

I am not having any sucess using an exclusion area. My new bridge shows up but the old one does not disappear. :(

How should I be creating an eclusion area? IS this a layers problem pehaps?

Thanks in advance,

Bruce May

Do you know what sort of bridge it is? If it is one made from scenery objects then it should be possible to use an exclusion rectangle. I am not sure in FS9 if some bridges are actually VTP lines - in which case you would need to use layer exclusions using a tool such as SBuilder

I think Jon is right here, the bridge has probably been made with a VTP line, so you would need a VTP exclude to remove it.

bridge

The bridge in question is one of the default bridges for FS 2004 rather blocky and gray. If you look around CYTR there are two about 1/2 mi to the northwest and one about 6 mi to the east.

I had made a replacement using Airport for Windows. In FS 2002 I was able to use the AFW exclude to remove the original but not so in FS 2004.

Use coordinates, please

Hi, brucemay

If you look around CYTR there are two about 1/2 mi to the northwest and one about 6 mi to the east.

To locate a point on the world, one used to give its geographical coordinates.

Put your airplane on the position, using shift +Z you can see the coordinates.

You can use TCalc.exe to show the aiplane position coordinates, too.

José

Sorry, The summer has pulled me away fro working on this...

One of the bridges in question is at N 44 8.50 W 77 23.2.

Now working ScenegenX build 100 but an exclude won't get rid of the original bridge.

Got it!

After lots of searching I finally found some clues and the solution.

Apparently the ugly default bridges are created by FS wherever a road or railroad crosses water.

Making a "hand made" exclude yields no sucess but I found reference by others for DefAreaV2.0 by Christian Fumey. It will make a .bgl that contains excludes for roads/rivers/shorelines and will exclude the default bridges.

This utility will also get rid of roads/rivers/shorelines. A very good soultion!

Works perfectly - my ugly bridge is now gone. :)
