• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Fixed objects in FS2004

Hi Guys:
Is there a way to "move" the fixed default objects (local objects) of FS2004 to other locations?
I would like to move a Hangar that is "local" in one city to an other.........

Thank you.

I assume you mean geo-locked objects? The only way I know of is to extract the model from the bgl file that it is in and then compile it into a library so that it has no location information with it.

Thank you Jon....since I am new at this, with what tool would I extract the model from the bgl file so I can re-compile?

For FS9 the best tool is NewBglAnalyze which you can get from Avsim. Please be aware that by extracting models from default files you may be infringing copyright. I am aware that it is done by quite a number of people but generally we do not recommend it. I guess if the object you want is the only one and it is very specific to you needs then so be it. On the other hand there are a lot of third party libraries created with buildings and so on that would perhaps be better to use.

Hi,

I would first try to find out what the GUID is (can be done by decompiling the file where you have seen the object) and then try to place it. If it is geo-locked you can always try to solve that, but maybe you can just place it again by calling the GUID.

Hi Jon and Arno.........

Thank you both for your quick answer, I can´t beleive how good this forum is in getting the right answers and from so knowledgable persons!!!!....
I agree in probably getting another object, similar to the one I need from some freeware file but it is nice to know all the intricasies of the nature of this FS world. I have learned here more in two weeks that in months of self teaching.

I tried NewBglAnalyze and for some .bgl´s it works fine, but why does it say " bgl too old" for most FS2004 bgl´s????

Not sure what you mean. If you are using NewBglAnalyze on FS9 libraries then it should be ok. However the program can only read certain types of bgl file. A lot of them in FS9 are of a type that the program cannot read so I suspect that is what is giving the message. Can you give an example of a bgl file that gives this message?
