• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

The GP editor "Flip" command seems (to me) to be inconsistent.

This is an "Un Dimensioned" line as drawn:

This is after "Flip about the horizontal axis" (which seems logical):

This is the above, flipped about the vertical axis (seems as though is has removed the previous flip)

Hi George,

Looks fine to me. The third image is the second image flipped vertically.

Now, that's paying attention, George!

I went through the same steps as you describe and the results were as I expected. The only way I could reproduce what you show in the third shot was to do an additional flip about the horizontal axis. Is it possible you did that inadvertently?

In doing this test I realized there is no way short of a compile to determine if there's been a flip. The GP Editor display is unchnaged. Perhaps I should deselect the vertices after a flip or give some other indication.

I think we have another language problem ;)

Here are the operations (and I think it is worse than I thought)

As drawn:

Flip about horizontal axis (if I read the button correctly):

Result. Not only has it flipped about the vertical axis but it has been scaled

Don, let me know if you would like the ADE file, the textures folders and the Def files.

Edit. Just saw your post Don.

Procedure:

I drew the line and textured it. Compiled and copied the bgls to the active scenery area, ran FSX and took a screen shot.

Then, closed FSX. Ran ADE, edited the line and used the flip button as indicated (took screen shot 2). Compiled, copied the files and ran FSX. Took screen shot 3.

No, I don't think there's a language problem. But there is a problem! And I don't think it has anything to do with the "flip" buttons.

In the first FSX renderiong above, there are 30 stalls. In the second rendering, there are only half that number. The latter appears to be consistent with the GP editor display. So, any re-scaling was done between the creation - or whatever was the situation of the first rendering - and the edit that was responsible for the second.

There are only two lines of code (in a loop, of course) for each of vertical and horizontal flip and flip's on my system seem, to be OK.

I have repeated the steps in your post and get the expected results. So yes, please send me the ADE file

Don

Hi Don,

I have attached the ADE file together with the Def files and the two (unused) custom textures. The texture I used was "Parking Slant Single" in gp_Patterns

The state of the ADE file is just after the initial creation of the line.

Edit. I am using ADE 1.6.4891

George, the problem is during the creation of the line, i.e., the scaling is wrong. On the first edit the scaling is corrected and appears to remain corrected.

I can find no problem with flip.

Don

George, I've tried repeatedly to duplicate the issue - without success since my earlier post suggesting the problem was druing creation. Now, looking at the FSX display, there are so many slanted parking areas that I'm no longer sure I was even looking at the one I created.

Please give it another try to see if you can identofy a repeatable sequence.

Probably because you were using a different version from me.

I hopped over the water to EFKG which has only a runway and repeated the experiment using version 0.0.50.

All went well until the horizontal flip. It flipped vertically

Here is the sequence, note, compile, copy to active area, run FSX.

Create the line.

Flip vertically.

Flip horizontally.

As you can see it has flipped it vertically

But, there was no change in scale :D

I have attached the file, so, delete the only line and repeat the exercise.

Ok, I know what's going on - both with rescaling and flip. Thanks for highlighting those issues. They will be fixed ASAP.

Just a quick update. It appears that FLIP itself is OK. (Try it with Polys.) However, line's aren't intended to be flipped since they are expected to be textured with either repeating patterns or uniform textures, in either case symmetrical along their axis - until George's brillant idea came along.

I was surprised yesterday at how easy the brillant idea "came together" the second time. Now I know why! So, it's back to the drawing board.

The issue is that straightened lines are regenerated each time they are edited, i.e., history is discarded. That's why they don't flip a second time. In addition and more troublesome is that these lines are sometimes rescaled and I don't yet know why (but I can reproduce the issue so it's only a matter of time.)

No more brillant ideas, George, PLEASE:o

Don

How about a great idea rather than a brilliant idea?

One which means that Don doesn't need to do any more development?

Hire an (unpaid) graphic artist to create every possible texture needed to populate lines and polys at an airport?

I would offer my services, but I am crap with a paintbrush :D
