• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

For what is worth....

The people at X-plane just placed a free demo online for those who would like to give it a try. Just go to their site at http://www.x-plane.com/

If any of you guys try it out, please let us know if it really is what they said it would be. It might be interesting developing some scenery for it..;)

If is not, simers will be let down once more again since it´s about time, technologically speaking, that a new, real new sim hits us in the face. Not gamy stuff or just another "update" to the stuff that is floating around....now don´t get me wrong people, I still enjoy FSX even if am always wishing for something really, really better you know....I have stopped being a faithful "believer" of all kind of pretty pictures, retouched photos and all that paraphernalia that manufactures concoct to entice our wantings and wishes and surely get our paper Palookas or coins.....------:stirthepo:stirthepo (one landed!!! the other in the holding pattern with a stuck undercarriage)

I looked at the screenshots. Unless they were just taking screens of one small high detail area, It looks like they did a superb job of modelling cities and towns. Streets filled with buildings, and sidewalks. Looks really cool.

Miguel says it runs for 5 min's and closes. The download is many Gigs and takes about 9 to 30 hours, depending on how the download traffic is going (very high demand, as you might guess).

Shipping begins on December 7th.

I was going to download it this morning and it was really choking, stating 33 hours until it was done. I know that speed changes though with traffic, as people finish their downloads, etc.

From the screenshots, this looks like it will be awesome.

There is one bug that pesters me. The sim engine runs a real time aerodynamics lift engine for the aircraft, then creates the world around it. What this means, quoting Austin, is that it is calculating airflow over every single panel and curve and surface on an airplane, making a full/complete lift calculation as the plane is flying (power/angle/air temp/density, etc, etc, etc, etc).

With that said, you must have a huge computer chip to run AI traffic. All AI will use the aerodynamics engine, which is a huge hit on the core of the Chip(s). If you have a quad-core, you will be able to run a few AI planes. With a 12 core (2X 6 cores), then you can run I think 14 AI planes.

My thoughts are just have a bunch on the ground as static.

I see now why FS can run TONS of planes in AI. The lift engine is much simpler allowing more planes to run at once.

I do not envy these guys that make sims. It is a DAUNTING task. Imagine making every neighborhood, mountain range, city, port, lake, bridge in the world!:#@#

I downloaded it in 3 hours and was very disappointed with the flight dynamics as always with xplane.

Yeah I tried XP9, the flight dynamics were annoyingly stupid and extremely un-realistic... I hope XP10 flies realistically, its horrible flying a 747 with the dynamics of a Eurofighter Typhoon.

So who ever persons are stating that the dynamics come directly from the model shape and environment etc, well in XP9 we all knew it was a big horrible lie.

However, installing the XP10 demo now, just been looking at the screenshots and they still have that very very very uglu lookign touchdown "smoke" effect...

Thanks guys......My X-plane 9 decided that it would not load past 49% a few months ago and I simply forgot about it, I found what you´ll say--the flight dynamics are really bad, its like flying in a sea of glue--anyway what really keeps me away is that when I flew it I felt in a world where only me and my plane existed--lonely out there!!!!, that I don´t get in FSX.....anyway I might buy it further on after the rush and more feedback.....

I'm sorry for them but that flight model is not realistic at all. And the demo works for only 5mn... then you cannot use the joystick anymore.

That is the demo side of it. Its supposed to do that. ;) 5 Mins only. Nice though that it stays on as you can explore and see the world and see the autogen improvements.

Well..... arrgh... I downloaded it and got it running.

Thats all I will say. I dont want to go off on negative comments.

I haven't tried it yet but XPlanes approach to scenery is worthy of discussion.

From the shots I've seen, at this stage it looks as if they have put relatively too much time into the modelling of the houses and forgot about vegetation- The suburbs look very bare in terms of vegetation. Presumably this can be rectified however.

While moving away from aerial textures is a interesting approach, I still think the reduction in immersion caused by seeing skewed buildings and trees on aerial textures isn't as much as the reduction in immersion seeing rows of houses placed seemingly in the middle of nowhere. Perhaps there just needs to be more work in the underlying artwork of the suburbs so that areas not covered by a house look a bit more random instead of uniform green grass.

One that does look good is the night environment....mmm lights :)

Actually the demo is 10 mins of flying time. If you pause it or change settings the clock stops. One main thing they still need to work out if they want to be the top dog in the flight sim industry.

User friendliness! When I plug in my joystick I want it to be already set up like MSFS has done for as long as I can remember. Throttle, hat switch and main axes need to work without doing anything. Also they need a new UI. (supposedly they are going to release a new one in the future) When I go to select a plane I want something like FS not a bunch of files to choose from and open.
