• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Freeway Traffic

Is there any update to your earlier post about vehicle traffic appearing on roads? I finally got roads to show, but is there supposed to be any traffic? Not important, but a nice feature.

Bob

Thanks, Lance

Can That be done with the SDK oject placement tool? Or is it more trouble that it's worth?

For some reason that we cannot currently fathom Freeway Traffic does not work when created by ADE :o

I have not yet tested Freeway traffic with ADE but I will take Jon's word for it that it is not working.

Until it does work in ADE, you can always use FSX_KML to put down freeway traffic.

Jon:
re: Freeway traffic

I do not know how you've implemented cvx-style scenery in ADE, but I assume ADE has the GUID's programmed in it. Is it possible that the GUID is wrong for the freeway traffic line? I'd compare the GUID you are calling from ADE vs. the GUID that appears in TMFViewer for a freeway traffic line.

Thanks Rhett - I think it is correct but I will check

I have looked into FSX_KML a few times and it seems a bit over my head. Read: I'm already taking some heat for the amount of time I'm spending on the computer. Freeway traffic is not high on my list, but it would be cool.

I have also looked at SBuilderX before. I deal mainly with airports I build myself, so a satellite image won't do me much good. I'm really trying to learn as few programs as possible so I don't overload my old brain.

What clip level are you feeding to Shp2Vec? Freeway Traffic is clipped at QMID level 15, while the rest of they flavors of vector scenery are clipped at 11. Using the wrong clip level would result in Freeway Traffic vectors not working.

Hi Doug

Thanks - I need to check that but you may well be right on this

This is the xml file that we are using:

Code:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<metadata xml:lang="en">
<FlightSim>
   <Geometry cliplevel="15"></Geometry>
   <AttributeSet>
      <AttributeBlock name="FreewayTrafficRoads" guid="{54B91ED8-BC02-41B7-8C3B-2B8449FF85EC}">
         <Field name="NumberOfLanes" type="UINT8" />
         <Field name="TrafficDirection" type="CHAR" />
         <Field name="Uuid" type="GUID" />
      </AttributeBlock>
   </AttributeSet>
</FlightSim>
</metadata>

So it does not look like the clip level which is 15

The only difference from mine (which works) is that

"<Field name="Uuid" type="GUID" />"

is the first field in mine. However, this shouldn't matter.

Mine matches that in the SDK examples so I do not think there is anything directly wrong with the xml unless Doug can tell us something more

Jon

I think we keep looking in the wrong place for the traffic issue in ADE. My XML that does generate traffic is identical to yours so I am ruling out the XML and looking at the other files we generate on the run command.

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<metadata xml:lang="en">
<FlightSim>
<Geometry cliplevel="15"></Geometry>
<AttributeSet>
<AttributeBlock name="FreewayTrafficRoads" guid="{54B91ED8-BC02-41B7-8C3B-2B8449FF85EC}">
<Field name="NumberOfLanes" type="UINT8" />
<Field name="TrafficDirection" type="CHAR" />
<Field name="Uuid" type="GUID" />
</AttributeBlock>
</AttributeSet>
</FlightSim>
</metadata>

Code:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<metadata xml:lang="en">
<FlightSim>
   <Geometry cliplevel="15"></Geometry>
   <AttributeSet>
      <AttributeBlock name="FreewayTrafficRoads" guid="{54B91ED8-BC02-41B7-8C3B-2B8449FF85EC}">
         <Field name="NumberOfLanes" type="UINT8" />
         <Field name="TrafficDirection" type="CHAR" />
         <Field name="Uuid" type="GUID" />
      </AttributeBlock>
   </AttributeSet>
</FlightSim>
</metadata>

So it does not look like the clip level which is 15

Looks correct. Do the Freeway Traffic vectors show up in TmfViewer?

-Doug

Doug

Yes they do - this is the result of creating freeway traffic using ADE

ScreenHunter_173.jpg

That's very strange that they show in TMFViewer but not in the sim.

Jon let me ask; in your TMFViewer, View menu|Vector Data|Exclusions, are Exclusions checked?

If the SDK statement is true pertaining to F and T (forget B) what am I missing in the following XML and if I am missing the traffic direction how does it nest

<shapes>
<freeway>
<guid>
{54b91ed8-bc02-41b7-8c3b-2b8449ff85ec}
</guid>
<coordinates>
-83.5625964080552,34.1646846933103,0
-83.5504362729453,34.1695438429591,0
</coordinates>
</freeway>
</shapes>

I could be wrong but the TMFViewer in Jon's picture above may only be the feature attributes of the table that associate with the DBase file and not the Shape file.
