• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS Design Studio

Does anyone here know where and how I could go about purchasing or otherwise acquiring a usable install of FS Design Studio (AKA FSDS)? Years back I bought a copy of the program and even built a few models (which I never published). For my money it was the best tool around for modelling aircraft. There were/are more powerful general purpose 3D modelling programs out there but none with a better, more intuitive interface for creating models of air-chines. Then I got sick. Like your family Dr blanching when he read the results sick. Like 5-year survival rate under 10% sick. For a long time I sorta lived in my chair and forgot about play-like flying. After I got somewhat better I tried to fire up my simulator but the hard drive refused to spin up. I sorta shrugged and figured the universe had decided I didn't need to be doing any more "play-like" flying. But now I want to make models of aircraft and spacecraft and buildings and my choice is either ramp up on one of the new 3D modellers or try and acquire FSDS and attempt to recover a VERY rusty skill.

So. Can anybody help out a sick old man?

Please note that the program is no longer supported by its publisher, for the most part.

Thanks for the comeback, folks. 37 Euro plus and it isn't even supported anymore? Too rich for my retired, living-on-a-fixed-income blood. Guess I'll have to bite the bullet and learn blender hexagon. You CAN teach an old dog new tricks but you have to work at it a lot harder.

more and recent people use blender. it will worth than using unsupported software.
I think people in this community is not hesitate to give a help, hard learn still on your side.

The problem is both the learning curve for Hexagon and the (atleast from my searches) relative dearth of tutorials out there.

What sim version do you want to develop for? Blender isn't an option for FS9 as there's no exporter.

I'm not wanting to develop for a sim at all. I want to try to make some vehicles and buildings for a buddy to use in Blender. FSDS was really a 3D modeller with extensions to compile models into a format compatible with MS FS9 and such. The thing about it was that it had the most nearly intuitive user interface I ever came across. It was possible to convert FSDS models to other formats. THATS what I wanted it for.

If your target is Blender, it would be easiest to just use it. Its interface might be a bit off-putting at first, but over time, it starts making sense. Prepare to learn a lot of hotkeys.

Abacus is long gone so if no one else is selling it, then it's probably gone for good.

Pretty sure Flight1 can sell an activation license.
I have a license. I purchased it in 2016 or 2017 but changed machines a few times and lost the installation file. However, I can't get the actual program anywhere. I spent hours searching sim forums and sim sites. It has been scrubbed. :-(. I will investigate Flight 1. I was hoping maybe there is some custodian of the program. seeing that users who own it can retrieve the files if required.
