• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA FS won't do what it's told...

Over the past several months I've been adding parking and traffic to the military air bases in the USA, (planning to do the rest of the world later.)

My current project is KNKT (Cherry Point Marine Corp Air Station) in North Carolina, (ad2 file attached). As you can see, the airport is laid out like the spokes of a wheel, so that, optimally, takeoffs go from the hub and landings come toward the hub.

However....Even though I've moved rwy 5L/23R to the top of the runway list and 14L/32R to the bottom, closed all "inner" runways (5L, 14R, 23L,32R ) to landings, and all "outer" runways (5R, 14L, 23R, 32L) have had the starts removed and are closed to takeoff, ATC ignores rwy 23L, (which has ILS approach,) and directs me (user aircraft) to land rwy 32R, (winds 250 @ 4). Then, for takeoff, (winds 250 @ 8) from the GA parking spot ATC directs me again to rwy 32R.

I read in an older thread that if you close one end of a runway to takeoff and the other end to landing, FS will treat the instructions as errors and ignore them. Is that the case here, or am I missing something?

Thank you.

I was hoping that someone who really knows would have answered by now. But let me get you started.

As far as I know, you can close one end of a runway for landing and the other end for takeoff, without problems.

32R is your primary runway in spite of your best efforts. It almost seems like North-South runways have priority over East-West runways, all things being equal. Things like runway length, wind, and parking location can make a difference. AI ignores ILS. Parallel runways act different than others.

Runway priority is primarily a matter of wind direction.

Thanks to both Bob and Jon for your replies. But I'm still confused...

If I can close 32R to landing, why does ATC direct me there?

And I realize AI ignores ILS but in this case we're talking user aircraft.

HELP, Please.

Thanks

You cannot close 32R for landing unless you also close 14L for landing (parallel runways). FS does not honor a single end closing while leaving the other end open for parallel runways.

Thanks Jim, that's what I was afraid of. I appreciate your help.
