• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 AI [1] not showing up and [2] takeoff not happening

Hi
I am having a weird problem with some Mig-15's at URKE or any other airports for that matter.

Firstly I have just renumbered(new registrations on aircraft sides)/painted the models using Gimp and DXTBMP so I can have a few more parked and flying around the skies etc. This was working fine but I have now come across a problem with some newer ones and that is they just do not show up at the airport I flight planned them to. The earlier ones do but these ones do not. Using the same aircraft cfg with the same coding etc. I'm just copying and pasting and renaming and re-numbering as I always did.
Is there a limit as to how many ai you can have on one aircraft cfg file in fs2004?

Secondly with some ai aircraft, they taxi out onto the runway and make their take off run but do not take off. Instead the run off the end of the runway and just carry on to their destination by land. It only seems to be happening with models I have repainted/re-numbered recently. I have triple checked the cfg entries and the are identical to the earlier entries I made (apart from the new registrations and names etc).

Does anyone have any pointers?

Thank you

Hmmm ... aircraft "not appearing" is often due to a lack of appropriate parking spots.
There's no limit as to the number of aircraft in a cfg file that I'm aware of, but it's crucial that the [fltsim.0] etc. sections are all unique (and possibly all sequential with no gaps?), also that the title=aeroplane_name section is also unique for each entry and replicated exactly in the traffic file.
There can be issues with punctuation or "foreign" characters in some areas of FS ... best stick to "nothing fancy".
Aircraft typekey in the traffic file must be no more than 15 characters, else it'll be truncated and you can end up with duplicates.
Aircraft that just don't take off ... I tend to test things like that at my test environment where there's no other "distractions" and treat them on a case by case basis ... there's usually an accidental typo in the aircraft.cfg limiting the power or lift or whatever.
Being able to restore from a known good back-up can be advantageous ;)
Good luck.

Thanks Chris

Yes I do have adequate parking spots and other ai use the airport ok.
I shall go back and scrutinise the aircraft cfg again but all I am doing is copy/paste of ones before it that work and renaming/numbering etc and changing the [fltsim.xx] numbers correctly, but maybe there is a typo thats crept in.

Thanks

Also, make sure that the title= and …variation= lines are unique to that livery.

AI Flightplanner (AIFP3.EXE) can analyse traffic files and show up some quite subtle anomalies.
Not suggesting it's "perfect" but certainly useful on occasion.
It catalogues what aircraft you have in your installation, then cross-references to what aircraft the traffic file expects ;)
Anything missing (usually due to a typo) shows up in red!

Thanks guys

I have scrutinized 2 cfg files and found some errors and corrected them.
Now I've got the migs landing and taking off.
still have a problem with an-8 ai aircraft. just does not show up so will delve deeper into it.
got my work cut out.
just in case it's the traffic files I've deleted all that I created and have started again from scratch. Thing was though they compiled ok. using AIFP3 as well.

thanks

Unfortunately, as you've already seen, traffic files will compile even if they refer to airports or aircraft that don't actually exist on your system.
Provided they're syntactically correct the compiler doesn't check ;)
Again, for your AN-8, set yourself up at a basic airstrip with a couple of suitably large parking spaces and long enough runway, write a basic traffic file to get the aircraft to take off, do a circuit and land again and see what happens.

oK GUYS

I have a problem with Calclassics Antonov 8 ai AN_8 . Maybe I should go to them with it or maybe it's my setup. I write an ai flight plan for the basic antonov 8. I start at ZEK4 in Russia and head to XMKK. it shows up ok at ZEK4, taxies out ok and starts it's take off run
and that's it. It overruns the runway doing 78Knots all down the runway, nose wheel comes up at about 70 knots but it never launches.
other ai perform ok.
I have scoured the .cfg file and the .air file but cannot find a problem with them.
Maybe should go to calclassics with this one,

cheers

That sounds very much like an "unfinished" (or untested) ai aircraft ... probably needs a bit more power and maybe a bit more lift.
A quick on-line search suggests the AN-8 has a take-off speed of around 125 knots.
The author(s), if they still exist, are probably your best bet ... there may even be an updated .air or .cfg file, if someone else has pointed out the problem.
