• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v5 FS9 aircraft conversion need help with vc and shadows

I converted the Avia 534 by Chris Lampard (Avia_B-534_IV_FS9.zip) for my personal use so far successfully with the help of the tutorial http://www.calclassic.com/convert_tutorial/index.html. I´m learning at the moment, how to do it. The VC chapter of the tutorial is limited to the 3D model. I can see the "exterior" panel inside, but no gauges. Maybe they are too old for P3D5 and need to be replaced. I had them on my system and placed them in the panel directory.
I think I need to see the VC at all. Is it there? How can I find out. I also fear, I don´t understand what it means dynamic texture, why they have no extension. The $ seems to be the distinguishing sign.
I added a $pan1 texture but it was shown head over heel in MCX. In the sim I guess it was transparent, then I had no upside down panel. If I didn´t set the panel to "default transparent" in MCX, it was just a black square from bottom to windshield.

Second problem is the propeller shade, which is rather strong and nervous. The prop spinns faster than the shadow when the prop is already blurred. Can I define the visibility of the shadows in MCX?

Thanks

Dan

Hi,

I do discuss in the tutorial the $bmp textures and that they may need to be made transparent.

I would try to replace a 2D gauge in a VCockpit section with one you know works in a different plane in P3D. Doesn't really matter which one, but make it an obvious one. Leave the 4 numbers the same, just change the folder/gauge names.

Don't forget that P3D V4 and upwards doesn't support the older gau type gauges, only the newer XML (and LUA based) gauges.

Hi
Yes, I will try this next. Just add some known gauges.

Not generally in my experience. Some work, some not.

P. S.
Still looking for an idea about the shadows. That nervous prop shadow makes me crazy.

Assuming the props have their own texture (and thus their own material), you should be able to change No Shadow to TRUE in the Material Editor for that material. It's in the Enhanced Parameters section.

That solved the problem. The prop blurred disk had a recocnizable texture, made it noShadow=true, saved the models and good. The slow props have no textures, have just colors but I don´t know which one because they are all grey/silver. So that had been trial and error. But it´s realistic, that you can see prop shadows on slow props.

In case of the panel, I made the experience recently with A.F. Scrubs Turbine Beaver, that the wrong .gau or even .xml can lead to missing gauges. I will replace the gauges and see what happens. But first, I will be away a few days.

Thank to all for your help.

Dan

P.S. Yes, it was the gauges files, which aren´t compatible with P3D5. So with the help of Panel Studio, which I found I have bought 10 years ago, I could easily replace the gauges. The hardest part is to find old style gauges somewhere in the aircraft library.

not perfect now but working.
