• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I've been using this great program since it was first introduced to tha FS community and never had a problem1
For quite a few years I I've had FS9 and FSX installed on the same computer and everything worked fine and when I opened ADE it gave me the
choice of FS9 or FSX, however I had to uninstall and re-install FSX. ADE no longer gives me that choice even though FS( is still installed where
it's been for years. Uninstalls both FSX and ADE, reinstalled ADE but it only opens ADEX,
What am I doing wrong??

Many thanks, PBH

Is FSX or FS9 missing? In any case if you have both installed but ADE does not offer the selector then there is a problem with the registry entry for the missing sim. ADE looks for the registry entry for all supported sims and if it does not find one then it will not display that in the selector

My experience some years ago was that when FSX is uninstalled the uninstaller removes both the FSX and the FS9 entries in your registry. You can either reinstall FS9 or manually edit your registry file in order for ADE to show both sims again. I edited my registry manually and have had no problem with ADE finding both sims ever since.

The Uninstaller for FSX doesn't Uninstall FS9 also. Never had that happen.

Hello:

You may also wish to review the info on how to restore Windows Registry strings required for FS use with ADE ...in this thread:

Yes I believe it did to me. The folder structure in registry is as follows on my Win7 64 bit machine.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SOFTWARE
Wow6432Node
Microsoft
Microsoft Games
Flight Simulator
10
9
When I first got this computer 11 years ago I installed FSX for the first time from the RTM dvd set. I screwed up and let it install in Program Files. I then installed FS9 from my RTM 4 cd set. I then decided to uninstall FSX and reinstall it outside of Program Files. At that point ADE would only find FSX. I believe that the FSX uninstaller wiped out the Flight Simulator folder and both the 10 and 9 folders under it in Registry. Jon tried to help me bypass ADE's registry check and have ADE allow me to choose which sim. None of which worked. Jon then gave me the FS9 registry entry that ADE was looking for and I manually added it. Never had a problem since with ADE finding both sims. Th OP is describing some of the same basic steps that I took and is having the same issue. Hence my advice to him either to add the registry entry for FS9 manually or to reinstall FS9 from the cd set and that should recreate the registry entry. Either way the registry entry will now be there and ADE will find it.

The reason it would delete any and all subfolders (within the registry) of the software (FSX or FS9) is because it's not within the "Program Files (x86)" (or "Program Files") structure. They were both (FSX or FS9) designed to be installed within the "Program Files (x86)" structure. This is the reason I never came across this mishap because both of my Flight Sims are installed within (and I do not have any permission problems either... from Windows XP to Windows 10).

So, manually recreating the registry entries is the easiest thing to do if the Flight Sims were not installed within the "Program Files (x86)" structure.

I've attached a picture of my registry entry for FS9. There are three keys that are needed. Please remember the pathway for my install may be different from yours.

Thanks Ed!! Unfortunately the image is impossible to read. Maybe you could write the ladder.

PBH, when I click on my image thumbnail it expands and I can read it easily. Under the FS9 folder there are three keys.
The first is the same as the first in your FS9_Reg_Entry.jpg photo.
The second is CDPath, REG_SZ, E:\
The third is EXE_Path, REG_SZ, C:\flight simulator 9\
Remember the EXE_Path is for my system, you would need to use your own.

Thanks Ed.yes when I now click your thumbnail it expands and is clearly readable but at 90 I don't always remember.
So it looks like I'm missing the third key - EXE_Path

You can use a Windows program called regedit to add that path key. Click on start and enter regedit into the search box to start the program.

I do not recommend this since ignoring the apparent absence of a registry is likely to cause more problems that just not having a selector for a specific sim.

However there is a nuclear option which will get ADE to start in any sim version. Make a backup of global.ini from the ADE main folder. Then open it and edit it as per the screenshot below

if [TARGET] is present then just add the ShowAll line otherwise you need to add the lines in the red box.

Save global.ini and run ADE again. ADE will show a selector with all valid sims. A valid sim is one that ADE supports not one that is actually on your computer..

This will include some that you may not have. You will also need to manually enter paths in Program Settings since ADE gets these via the registry and you may not have a working one

So please try and try to fix the registry before falling back to the sledge hammer ;)

Thank you but I don't seem to have a Global.ini file.
