• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.

Hi Again.

I've just watched the FSX Transparency Tutorial. Please bear with me as I'm just getting started in to creating scenery for FSX. In the Transparency Tutorial, he talked about having to have the alpha with in the the texture sheet.

Is there any tutorials on creating the proper textures for transparency in FSX??

Hi Again.

Thank you for the link to texture creating tutorial. I'm trying to work through it, but I've don't use Photo Shop. Pant Shop pro 9 is a bit different. I think I figured out how to split the GRB channel. As for making the alpha I can do that by greyscaling the image and the painting it in by hand. Is there a better way to do this in Paint Shop??

Thank you your time.

Kenny .. I don't use PSP, but generally the alpha properties are going to be independent of the RGB information, depending on what it is you are using alpha for.

In that case, there is no need to alter the RGB channels ... you are simply adding an extra (alpha) channel to make an RGB-A image.

In the case of transparency, the extra channel is generally filled and painted as you would any other layer ... using selection tools to outline if required.

This is simply a matter of experimenting and learning to use your image editing program (whatever it may be)

GIMP is also a good option (as discussed elsewhere on these forums)

I've discussed this with Kenny in another forum, but for those that may want to know, the easiest way to deal with alpha channels in PSP is as a separate layer in the main textures. It can then be copied and saved to a separate image, and Alpha/Import Alpha Channel used in DXTBmp to add it into the final FS image.

Hope this helps,
