• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

GMax Getting back into my GMax

Hello all
In 2014, I installed GMax, got a registration key and used it to build my boat and a few other things.
Then I had the unfortunate event of having a major computer crash and had to buy a new computer. At the time, I was busy with work and had no time to go back into GMax. Besides, I had manage to do what I really wanted to do.
Recently I got a bit more spare time and wanted to model up a "Lock" to put on my FSX terrain rivers.
After searching a few of my old hard drive using a drive dock, I finally found my GMax program, but I could not find my registration key. I found my e-mails to Turbosquid, and a few replies thanking me for joining them, but no e-mail containing registration key.
I was getting very discouraged and decide to log into this forum and once again request some help.
But before writing my intended post, I tried a search on "GMax registration". To my surprise I got 1 hit related sting back to 2012 rguarding a "hack" to get around the registration. Even though this was a very old post, I decided to try it anyways. To my surprise, it worked.

So instead of posting a request for help, I am posting to thank the developer for this "hack?

Now'e I will need to "relearn" how'e to use GMax. But the first major "hurtle" of getting my program back up and ruining has been passed.

Again, thank you

you may also want to check if you have the FSX SDK or the P3D v1.4

Since I got my GMax from the FS2004 disk, I also have the "fs2004_sdk_gmax_setup.exe" file
Same one I used back in 2014

Michel

That should be fine as long as your lock object does not have any transparencies. FS 2004 models with transparency do not appear correctly in FSX.

After I got my Gmax going again, I went back to complete fixing the canals water elevation to be flat (or slightly slope).
Now I am wanting to draw some locks. Making therm functional may not be possible as I would want them to be, but at least there will be lock structures were there should be.
I wanted to see If I remembered how to convert a Gmax object for a FSX object. I started the "power_Charger" tutorial. Aftere building the first patrt of the base, I went to test the conversion procedure.
If I look at my gmax directory and found that I do hve the "FSX_GmaxGamepack" under the gamepacks.
When I go to FS Tools/LODNametool I get this

Any of the item under FS Toold will yield the dame warning/

Any idea what went wrong?

Is the LODandNameTool.ms file inside your GMAX scripts folder?

Tom
I had a suspicion that that was my problem.
My script folder is empty, and so is my script folder in my original Gmax folder on my old drive.
All I have is a sub folder "startup".
Where would I find these files. I can't find them in my FSX SDK folder.
I don't know if the fact that I am still running on Window 7 has any bearing on this problem. I ran into this problem before where a program stops working because of this.

I just discovered that If I look in the script folder under the FSX gamepack, I do have those files. I tried to copy them to the Gmax/script folder and still getting the dame problem

I also notice a FSX_GMAX.exe under the FSX Gamepack. Should I be starting gmax from this EXE File?
