• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Glide Slope capture

Once again thanks for the nice program

Are there any known problems with the autopilot capturing the glide slope?. I added a new ILS to a default airport but the autopilot will not capture the GS. It captures the LOC very well

I have tried it in two default planes, 737 and CRJ and no luck. And just to be sure I did some approaches at other airports with default ILS and the capture works ok

Any guidance/tips appreciated

Many thanks
Bill

Couple of questions - is the glideslope aligned with the runway? and what glide slope angle is set? I guess this is a daft question but it is pointing in the right direction along the runway :o

Never a daft question :)

I used the programs ILS feature to automatically add it, rather than do it myself with the feather icon etc.

It is aligned with the runway and the angle set at 3 degrees. I have attached a picture if it will help. Its at TNCM airport.

Many thanks

Bill

Well on the face of it, it looks OK. I don't use FSXP myself so can't say whether you have it set correctly. But you say you are seeing the localizer but not the glideslope? Yo be honest I can't think of a reason why one would be active and not the other. Does the DME work?

Looking at the stock airport there isn't a stock ILS present so there should not be a conflict

Sorry not being much help at the moment

Jon,

Yes the GS comes alive, and the DME works. The autopilot only captures the LOC.

I used this airport since there wasnt an ILS present to experiment and learn.

I will keep trying.

Thanks for the replies

Bill

PS I downloaded your other ADE and will load it and see if there is a difference. I just noticed you are the author of that one :)

Bill,

Just a shot in the dark. Since you are going to use Jon's ADE. Check the see what approaches you have, perhaps the AP only finds the LOCALIZER approach.

See the SDK Environment|BGL compiler

Ron

What you say is correct only the localizer approach is working

I opened the airport in ADE but I cannot find anywhere in it that tells me type of Approach.

Any further help would be appreciated as this may be the problem

Thanks
Bill

I think any discussion related to ADE should take place in the ADE Forum and not in the FSX Planner Forum.

Having said that ADE does not support the design of approaches at this time whereas FSX Planner does. That being the case it might be better to continue to work in FSX Planner on this airport :)

Will do Jon thanks and nice program as well :)

I did find approaches in FSXP and will see if that can fix the problem

Bill

Update: I found the approach part of FSXP and added the ILS for runway 9 and it worked. Only thing now the GS brings me down a few yards before the threshold and scared the sunbathers on the beach :)

I guess the angle may have something to do with that so I will play around with it

Thanks again for the help

Bill

Wow, I seemed to have missed this quickly developing topic. :) It looks like you've got your questions answered though, correct?

Yes I think its fixed. I did not realize that I had to add the approach to the airport as pointed out by Ron. Quite a detailed layout. Only thing I have to do is play with the pitch angle or other settings as the GS is landing me way too short of the threshold.

Thanks for jumping in though, and any other tips welcome.

My apologies to both Jon and Russell. I assume ADE did approaches and FSX Planner did not.
