Gmax export error

Hello,
I recently tried to export a gmax model into mdl format and i keep getting the following error (see image attatched)

Gmax has been working perfectly for months and then today i keep getting this error.
Any idea what might be causing it?
The model i am trying to export has many cloned objects in it - could this be the problem?

I have searched the forum and similar errors have been solved using the comma to decimal fix but i can confirm that the decimal is the format used on my computer.

Thanks

Usually 2 things cause this.

1. Over 65,000 Polygons sharing the same Material. Copy Material, change a setting 1% on it, rename Material slightly different, assign half of those 65K Poly's to that new 'duplicate' Material.

2. Too many Polygons on the scene exporting, usually around 1/2 million Polygons. To test if this is it, export half of the model and see if it exports. If it does, you have too many parts in the model.

There are other things that could be causing this. Because its the FSX export system, the 'entire' model assembly is juggled in virtual memory, not like the FS9 version compiler, so it uses TONS of memory. If it goes overboard, it will almost crash Windows, so Windows closes/crashes the compiler to keep Windows running.

It could be several things. Just have to be patient and try to find the cause.

Also, try rebooting and clean out our RAM. (Rebooting usually refreshes/cleans your RAM). You might have too many things running (massive PSD files in Photoshop for instance) that might be using up all the system memory.

Hi Bill,
Thanks for the response.
The scene i am trying to export only has 1286 polygons so i don't think the issue is to do with excessive polygons.

I will try exporting again after i clean up the RAM and reboot.

Thanks for your help
:)

Another thing it might be is materials. Twice in the past, I had a bad material crashing things. If you just added a new Material, it 'might' be that. To check this, you might create a new dummy FSX texture, apply it to the parts, save this as a 'special test' version (as you changed the Material) and see if it exports.

You were 100% correct! The issue was with a bad material, i simply re applied the texture as a new material, mapped it onto the object and that solved the problem. :D

Thank you Bill

Awesome!

The thanks go to Mike, Piper and Messerschmidt model maker from Canada that first found this error. Had him stuck for probably 2 long weeks.

Hey guys!
Hope it's ok to append my error to this thread.

Same Error - even though the beginning is german - occurred when exporting a simple box without applying any meterial or effects via FSX_GMaxGamepack.

Already tested:
- Checking "."/"," problem
- Vertex count is just 8
- Color is a normal blue without usage of materials

System:
- Win7 64bit
- FSX SDK SP2

I didn't really find any other solutions on the forums. Hope you're able to help!

Greets from Berlin to the other parts of our world!

Mats
