• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

GMax + FSX + Windows 7 64 bit

15 hour shifts? I remember trying to learn this stuff after 10 hour shifts and finding my head was mush. :o

What you've got to know about the UVW Unwrap modifier is once you've applied one, any changes you might make to the preceding UVW Mapping or selected polys won't make the least difference to the UVW Unwrap. Select different polys, change the mapping type, the Unwrap result remains the same because the UVW Unwrap modifier 'locks' the mapping made when it was applied.

So to correct a UVW Unwrapped result, first delete the original UVW Unwrap modifier. Then apply a new one.

This 'locking' makes some really nifty mapping methods possible, but I'll leave that for another time as it's already been covered in another thread.

This is shit, THIS IS ABSOLUTELY BULLSHIT!!!

NOTHING i am trying will work.

If anyone has a real good idea can ask me for contact datas for TeamViewer 7 to come up to my Laptop and try out what is going wrong here.

I have applied the bottom of the Tower with the Texture i wanted

:D

I want to pick other polygones and the texture disappears.

the new unwrapper is added somewhere in the middle of the list

the selected Polygones are shown from the top view so that nothing can ever fit.

Fuck off man.. in these times i can't afford to build this stupid Tower from 100 Primitivas just to make it look like a Tower. Especialy when i want to build a Terminal, some military bunkers( Hangars) and other buildings around the Airport

Maybe it's the 15 hr shifts talking .....

Don't have time for a Teamviewer session.

Have you simply tried:

Subselect the polygons you want
Apply UVMap -cylinder for example
Orient the cylinder to align with your tubular tower
Then unwrap.

The unwrap window simply looks like overlapping verts from mapping that was not oriented correctly.

Apart from the amount of time you have spent, I am still not sure what steps you are taking.

Back off on the profanity please. It's not a bit helpful or desired.

You need to learn how the UVW Map needs to be aligned. Hint: there's a button near the bottom of the rollout that's labled "View Align."

Think of the UVW Map as a "camera" with which you take a photo of your object. If you take a picture of the TOP of the tower, you'll get the results you've shown so far.

Sorry for the words i have chosen.

I think it's better to sleep some hours an make a new try tomorrow.

Maybe you can come up later to take a direkt look what happens on my laptop and probably see why it is going wrong

a tired Chazz

I think it's better to leave my work as it is for some days and try to intall FSX and gmax on my other Laptop next weekend when i'm hopefully at home.

maybe i'm more successfull in a vista Laptop

The OS have nothing to do, Gmax is working well in W7, maybe the way you have done the tower, I have got something similiar sometimes, when I texture a polygon without collapse the stack, and you begin to texture another polygon this could be because all the polygon are independents, try to attach all the parts of the tower to be just one object, just if could be of help.
Edit: if the object is black in fsx mean fsx not found the texture file, anyway try to export boxes, spheres, with some texture and looking closely where your textures are. and get the hang to the uv map and the edition with unwrap, I just lasted 10 years to get the hang to all this, and still I am a newby, (just joking ...or not?)
