• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hey i just curious is ok to use google services such as google maps for scenry designs e.g. photoreal? Because it will not be great if someone from google sue for copyright issues.

If there is no problem ill start selling few of my payware scenery creations, thanks!

It is NOT ok to sell or distribute photoreal scenery derived from Google Maps. They are copyrighted. If you question this advice I recommend you get a lawyer. This has been discussed countless times on these forums.

Google in payware? You'd better talk to them first. You probably wouldn't even deal with them, you'd encounter the modern day version of an ambulance chaser, some whistle blower that would offer to pursue, "pro bono," simply on the merits of the solidity of his recovery.

Also any suggestions to make photoreal with no copyrights? I heard from my friend to buy tiles copyright on certain area

Hi there,

it's not very useful to talk about Google or Microsoft/Bing because they don't actually own most of the imagery they display in their map apps. For satellite imagery and the Bing orthoimagery Digital Globe pretty much has the monopoly, while Airbus' Pleiades satellite is a relatively new competitor. Both companies have browsers that allow you to search for existing imagery for a given area. However, I'd suggest using one of the data resellers because they actually help you find the best available type and quality of imagery.

More information here: http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/satellite-imagery-licensing.440804/#post-779092

That being said, the obvious first step would be to search for imagery that may be available without having to purchase a license. Thus, an in-depth Google search for "orthoimagery" or similar tags for your area of interest might bring up data you can use.

Cheers, Holger

Which area are you looking for? Some parts of the world have data available you can use. But it really differs per country.

it will be difficult to find some gis data free for payware scenery. Here we have many data available for download but it's clear the statement, if they are for commercial Project you have to buy them.

As Holger said, Google does not hold the copyright. If you want to know who hold that, please look at the bottom of Google Map or Google Earth and you will see the information of copyright © there. Contact them via their website, there might be a sale representative in your country. They will tell you how to contact that sale person. Ask them for the price and the resolution of the image. In Asia it is pretty bad compare to those satellite images in Western world. Sorry that the captured photo is in may language, however the information is still in English. This is my place in Thailand and DigitalGlobe hold the copyright. I contacted them years ago and there is a sale rep. in Thailand, called "Gisda". I always buy from them.

Just to reiterate what arno stated.
I was referred to the SCRD web site which allows download of tiles which I was advised are copyright free. It is only for areas of BC Canada though.
There could be other web sites for other areas. Maybe Google 'orthophoto image' or 'SID files'.
SCRD tile download site
You will need GeoViewer to view the SID files and convert them to a GeoTiff, JPEG or PEG image file.
