• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Ground Elevation

1.) First use the [Reply] button at the bottom Right-hand corner of a post anywhere in a thread ...that you wish to quote from.

Yes, that's what I've always done.

2.) Then copy the "Start Quote" delimiter and paste it above each and every section you are individually writing a Reply to ex:

I think that's where I've been doing it wrong. I've just been typing in, or copying, a beginning bracket, QUOTE, and the end bracket, but I did not include the other characters, the post number and member number. So what I need to do is type, or copy that entire string for the Start Quote and not just QUOTE with the brackets.

3.) You must also copy and paste the "End Quote" delimiter below each and every quoted text section

Yes. That's how I would type, or copy it at the end of a quote. I just haven't been including the other characters, the post number and the member number for the Start Quote when I would be quoting other sections. I hope I got it right this time.

The above example now looks good for citation of source, and easier review of original context for quotes, Ken. :)

After now seeing the precision and full 'multi-level' extent of your KHSV 3D model, in Sketchup, it would indeed be more efficient and expeditious to separately 'Group' the lower level ground polygon independently from all other terminal, retention wall and ramp / roadway structures, as well as the upper level structures.

After making that latter Group of objects "Hidden", and with only the specified lower level ground polygon Group "Visible" in the Sketchup work-space, Export that 3D model from Skletchup as a Google Earth *.KMZ file.

In ModelConverterX (aka "MCX"), import the resulting *.KMZ in 'normal' mode (...not using the G-Poly Wizard at this time). :pushpin:

Then click the [Export Scenery] button, and use the option for output of a "FSX flatten BGL file (*.BGL)".

Hi Gary,

I'm going to try the "FSX flatten BGL" selection in MCX that you've discussed here, but I have a question. Would this "FSX Flatten BGL" file be in addition to the already modeled KHSV.bgl that I already have, or would this file replace the KHSV.bgl file? I'm thinking that it's in addition to the KHSV model I have now since I would be selecting the "FSX Flatten BGL" in MCX. Also, would I need to create the Textures or do I just export the file?

Hi Ken:

Here are screenshots at KHSV with your 3D model placed on satellite imagery; only your replacement "Airport Background" file set is loaded:

Note that the extent of your replacement "Airport Background" file set currently does not include "all" lower Altitude level areas at KHSV. :pushpin:

IIUC, you may have intended to more accurately represent the full extent of all the lower Altitude levels at KHSV in your replacement ABP.

By allowing the default KHSV airport infrastructure RWYs, Taxiway Paths, Aprons etc. to display at the original default assigned ARP Altitude, you may have successfully enabled the default Approaches and AI / Ground Traffic to work as intended ...without having modified the entire default ABP flatten for the navigable "upper" level of KHSV. ;)

FYI: This only works reliably at KHSV because ground surface Altitudes of underlying terrain mesh happens to be closely matched to the default KHSV airport infrastructure RWYs, Taxiway Paths, Aprons etc., ...and may- or may not- work at other airports you might intend to modify. :alert:

I recommend that you expand the extent of coverage for your replacement ABP to include "all" of the lower Altitude level areas at KHSV.

I shall reply to your in-context inquiries above regarding the basis for Jim Vile's recommendation to Exclude and Replace "all" of a default ABP when modifying a default (aka "stock") airport, and some potential issues involving your 3D model ...in a separate post to this same thread ASAP.

IMHO, things are shaping up rather nicely with your 'personal use' KHSV project so far ! :)

can you tell me how did you manage to make that elevation Please
i'm in a big problem with my scenery
thnx in advance :)

Hi Ken:

Basically, the MCX output will be a CVX vector ABP with only the "Flatten" attribute applied to the sloped polygon(s); it will replace any CVX vector ABP BGL output via ADE or SBuilderX intended as a "Flatten" ABP for the lower level of KHSV .

That "Flatten" BGL output by MCX may overlap and duplicate the CVX vector BGL , so you would likely wish to remove any prior CVX vector ABP BGL output via ADE or SBuilderX intended as a "Flatten" ABP for the lower level of KHSV, from your active scenery folder(s) for KHSV.
