• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Ground Poly question

I am trying to use the wizard for the first time to try it out. I am tired of the old 2002 way haha.

I have gone through Arnos video and set everything correctly along with my correct GPS and ground altitude in meters according to the AFCAD file. When I export I get no errors and the preview disappears and a bgl is made. However it is nowhere to be found in the sim?

Any ideas what I could check first?

for FSX

Gary, Unless you say otherwise MCX is going to put the BGL in the same folder that the model file was in. You can direct the output BGL to any folder you want and that is one of the settings that you can save for that ground polygon. Whenever you modify your model and convert it into a ground polygon again you can recall your settings once the model finishes loading. I use it every time.

If you have already a scenery folder for your ADEX bgl file, simply put it in the same scenery folder and it should be visible.

Sorry for the late reply guys, I do have a separate scenery folder it is the one I have been using for my tutorials. It is activated as I have the rest of my scenery in there. For some reason the BGL will not show for the ground polys? Could it be that I use *.DDS textures and have the model converter read the 24 bit BMPs in the same folder I have the *.MDL file?

Here is a pic to show....

Gary,

Your ground polygon is telling FSX to use textures that have a .bmp extension when it displays your ground polygon. You need to have bmp textures in your texture folder. You can also check the box to convert textures and MCX will use Image Tool to convert the textures to dds but you need to flip them vertically first before placing them in your texture folder. It doesn't matter which way you go. For simplicity at the moment copy your bmp textures into your texture folder and you should see your ground polygon.

I understood that FSX would look for DDS if it couldn't find BMP?

Thanks for the info Tom. I'll keep that in mind. I never suspected that FSX was that sophisticated. I should give MS more credit.
Gary, I'm glad you spotted that.
