• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

height problem

afster searching the forum i couldn't find the solution for my problem when adding a helipad and when i added a concrete infront of a building.

on the pic you see the building that i added at Nr 1 and i drawed the concrete infront of it (nr 2): the concrete ingame stands about 1.5 meters above the ground, the building is fine.

also at nr3 i placed a helipad and ingame it's standing 1.5 meters above the ground, on the right side of it i added a windsocket and that hight is perfect.

what do i do wrong or what do i still have to do?
if you want, i'll send you the file

Have you created an airport background/flatten polygon?

George

i'm completly new to this, don't really now what you mean.

the background i made in SBuilderX....
the concrete i did with add aprons....
the helipad with library object....

the background/flatten that you mean, is that something i
have to/can fix in SBuilderX or in ADE?

It appears that you are trying to add a airport to the default ground which is uneven.

You must create a flatten and possible airport grass texture (optional) with ADE so all aprons, buildings, runways, helipads, etc match the ARP elevation (pink spot).

Certain objects like buildings and windsocks seek the ground elevation but other visuals like a apron seek the ARP elevation.

well not really adding the airport, i moved it a bit down from the pink spot, that is (was now) the lokation in FSX, but in real life it's at the place where i moved it.

so that could be the solution, just going to check out now how to do that in ADE, to flatten the complete airport.
i'm sure i'll find a tutorial.

just starting editing for 1 day :D

thanks Jim and golf-hoteldelta for trying to help me

As George and Jim say - it looks like there is no airport background polygon (that does the flattening and excluding of autogen) at this location. You screen shot shows what looks like normal lanc class under the airport elements. The release notes that come with version 1.30 explain how to create a background polygon.

It looks more like photographic scenery which is why he needs to move the airport.

If you tell us which airport we can advise on the flatten.

EBHN

the project that i want to do is: photographic scenery of Belgium (small country:D) and adjust all the airports that i use in real life...

i'm stuck,

everything i have tried doesn't give me the result i want.

i have tried the tutorial but still it doesn't work

could someone give me the correct steps please?

what i have done is:

make a background in SbuilderX
open EBHN airport in ADE
add image (from SbuilderX)
moved the airport more down like where it should be
add polygon in ADE and set altitude
added Helipad, houses,...
added apron cement

what do i do wrong? or what step(s) did i forget.

if i change other airports like EBKT i don't have al these problems, because the airport is about in the correct position and allready flatten where i place stuff.

... and 2a. Make a dummy header to override the default height ;)

George

What type of polygon? And what elevation?

The airport is at 10 feet or 3.048 meters. That's set in FSX. That's why your runway is sitting above ground, along with your concrete. It all gets assigned to what FSX says the elevation is.

So you have two choices;

1. Make a new Airport Background Flatten Exclude Autogen and assign the elevation to 3.048 meters.

2. Use the function within ADE to change the airport elevation down to 5 feet or 1.524 meters and make a new Airport Background Flattern Exclude Autogen at this elevation.

i have done everything you said, i'm giving up on this airfield

i know i do something wrong, but really don't know what

do i need to delete a file of FSX itself??
i have started all over again:

open stock EBHN airport
add image,
then draw a polygon and new Airport Background Flatten Exclude Autogen and assign the elevation to 3.048 meters.
deleted the acctual runway and created one on the correct spot.
added a helipad and draw the apron cement.

save then compiled, putted the file in addons/scenery map of FSX

started fsx and still same problem, runway to high, apron cement to high, helipad to high.

I really appriciate your guys help
and i want to ask 2 things more:

witch info do you need more so you can help me?

or could someone send me a correct startfile for that airport,
so i only have to add my stuff like buildings and so on?

OK guys i found my problem :o:o:o

i allways putted only the file ebhn_ADE in my scenery folder

you need also to put the file named ebhn_CVX also in the scenery folder :o:o

i'm really,really,really,really sorry!!!!

if you guys want to come over here and KICK my ***
feel free... :D

Thanks again for trying to help me with my problem!!!

Yes that would do it :) ADE will remember which folder you compile to. I usually use the scenery folder that I want them to be in for FSX. George I know compiles and then copies them. Both methods are fine but if you copy then you need to move everything which can be two bgl files now but could be more in future version of ADE :)

I hope it's ok to join this thread as the subject is the same. I am re-building Tangmere in S. England on Horizon's photo scenery.

I have had exactly the same problems as above and I understand now that I must flatten the airport area. That seems a shame because I think I will lose the photographic detail in the flattened area.

Anyway, I am left with two questions:
1. How do I determine the precise elevation of the Tangmere area (no field exists at present). I could just land there but how would I find an accurate elevation like 49.3 feet (altimeter is only approximate).
2. When I do adjust the elevation (Settings.... change airport elevation) by just a foot or two up or down, say 48 feet to 50 feet, (without flattening the airport) the runway moves from about 10 feet below terrain elevation to about 10 feet above it. Is that right?

Thanks,

klem

You need TCalcX:

No.

Alternatively to TCalcX if you have ADE connected to FSX then the ground altitude at the user aircraft position is shown in the red display at top left (under the blue display)

Everything needs to match. Get the altitude of the ground where you want the airport reference point to be. Make a terrain polygon flatten at that altitude to cover the whole area of the airport. If you are creating a new airport at this point then set the airport altitude at this altitude. If you have an existing airport at this point you need to use Tools > Change Airport Altitude to change the altitude. this create a small BGL file that is placed (automatically by ADE) in your World Scenery Folder and also corrects altitudes for runways and so on. Do not just change the altitude of the airport in the XML or anything as this will not work.

Forgive me if I am a bit thick (and I'm not in front of my ADE PC) but if I am in ADE and connected to FSX and have not yet created a new airport (which requires me to enter an airport altitude) where/how would I place a User Aircraft in ADE to get the altitude readout I need?

Or do I land in FSX and then what do I do to read my altitude in ADE?
