• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Help needed for new project

Hello, I made a post before but in my desperation and lack of time due to work I even forgot to visit back....:(, currently I am developing Mexico City's Central Airport like it was in 1959 and 1964, and I am having a lot of problems with it lately. The buildings are most of them custom made with sketchup, the problem is that the whole scenery and Mexico City area goes completely blurry!, I did convert the textures to DTX1 with mipmaps, Tom Gibson at Calclassic suggested that maybe the sketchup models might have too much polygons, It might be true since the main passenger terminal was originally made in one piece and at the time of export to MDL it was slow like a snail, I decided to "cut" the terminal in pieces so it would be faster, the polygons have been minimized in all objects but more than that I have no idea why still I have this problem, the textures all of them have been revised and reconverted just in case. The next problem is related to Ramp Lights, I am using a mixture of ramp lights by Sidney Schwartz and others, the problem with them is that the light effect is still on at day light and before it was not like this, I have tried by taking them out, restarting my pc and place them again, but no go...., and the last one but I think the least important for my own case is the fps, I am getting a very low rate, but this only happens if the aircraft points to the main terminal, thou as I said before the terminal polygons are at minimums without losing it's original shape, this might only be because of my horribly slow like snail arse pc. Things can get even more complicated, still there are more objects that have to be placed, cars, airport vehicles, gardens, fountains, people etc........ and I don't know how this is going to end up:confused:.

Greetings.

.

I am including a set of screens showing the scenery as it is of now.

Describe you PC. Either you do not have AA turned on in your video card, or your computer has only onboard graphics. Computer does not have to be old to be slow. My new laptop is W7 with an i3 CPU. It runs FS terrible.

Are you using sketchup textures for the ashpalt? I wonder if stock textures would demand less of the cpu.

Bob

hello,

Hello!, well what I have is an Intel celeron 2.80GHZ, and 0.99 GB ram, windows XP professional sp3 and yes unfortunately has an inboard graphic card.

Greetings.

OK. So at this point, your system may not be a good indication of what does and doesn't work well in FS. Could explain why lighting didn't work and why textures are blurry. Try your scenery on a more powerful computer. Or post it here so we can try it. It looks really good.

I used to run FS9 on a P4 with 1G of ram and a 256mb GPU. Ran OK until I tried to run detailed scenery.

If you could find (might not be worth buying one, up to you)an AGP or even a pci card for you computer, you might be surprised.

I've tried it on my computer and it is not blurry and has frame rates in the 40's. Nice airport. I also don't have lights on in the day time.

Those lights are actually not on during day time but at a distance you can see a halo around them. I have the same problem.

As others have said, onboard video card isn't going to help your problem. An increase of RAM (memory) might also help.

re

Yup, I noticed and yes it might be urgent to upgrade this PC, unfortunately it will mean a heavy spending since I am considering in making the sceneries compatible with fsx.:scratchch

If you invest, keep in mind that FS is not so much graphic intensive but rather CPU process hungry.

If you are a bit tech. savvy do as I do, head up to http://www.newegg.com/ (my preferred) or TigerDirect and build your own machine with the component of YOUR choice.

I know you mentioned compressing your textures to DXT1, but just in case http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=77608 (little tutorial I wrote).

Also to debug you could remove say 1/2 the objects from your placement xml file and see if the blurries go away. If they do then test with the other 1/2. If you get no blurries with either 1/2 then it's your system that is a bit outdated.
If on the contrary you get blurries with one 1/2 then split it again into 1/4 and repeat until you have only a couple objects in the xml. At the end you might end up with 1 or 2 objects being the origin of the problem. Check out the texture for those objects. %99 chances they are the faulty ones.

re

Well as for the blurred scenery issue, I already fixed it, it turned out that one of the textures was at 128 pixels and had change it to 256 plus compressing from DTX1 to 8 bit maps. On more things, I decided that I might do my own ramp flood lights, but that issue I will post it in the effects section.:)

I'm interested to hearing about that since I know nothing about light projection.
I have issues with ground tiles and light going on and off depending on aircraft angle.
