• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Help with Laptop specification

Hi Guys,

I'm thinking of spending a few hundred pounds on a Laptop, not too much, say up to £500/$800. I need it so that I can work in the lounge without having to squirrel mysel away in my den. It has to do the following:-
Run G-max modelling software to make 3D objects for FSX
Run Airport Design Editor for making FSX airports.
Run FSX to test the above (low settinng would be OK).
and if you know it, for IL-2 Sturmovik 1946.....
Run IL-2 (low settings OK) so that I can build missions.
Run IL-2 Dynamic Mission Generator.

I want a ~17" screen and full keyboard with numeric keypad. Wireless, although I have a PMCIA(?) slot wireless card. Webcam would be nice.

Does anyone know enough about current laptops to suggest a make/model or the kind of processor, memory and video card that would be good (they all seem to be different to desk-tops).

Hope someone out there can give me some guidance,

thanks,

klem

ADE is developed on a laptop (I don't have a desktop any longer). In my case it is a Dell Studio with a 15in screen but I believe there is one with 17in. I have dual core intel processors, 4Gb memory and a 320Gb internal HD. I have several Terrabytes of external HD. Comes with built in wireless and web cam. I run Windows 7 Professional 64bit on it. Just has the standard drivers and internal graphics card etc. It is not a gaming machine - but then I never get time to fly the sim anyway ;) Bought it Jan 2009 in the US for about $700. Not suggesting this is the way to go but just giving you some baseline specs.

I have an HP Pavilion dv4:

T5800 Processor @ 2.00ghz (Dual core)
3GB RAM
~160GB HD

and I run all of the above except for the "IL-2" and with sliders all the way up in FSX i get about 9-11 frames. It's a very good computer that I would recommend. :)
