• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

HLBK airport in P3D5 too low

In P3D V5.3 the airport at HLBK is too low. Looks like it is in a bowl, How can this bet corrected?
Using ADE, I tried to elevate the airport and it only raised the runway and not the rest of the airport.

Looks to be a mesh issue... Airport is actually at 20ft AMSL, but immediate surrounding terrain is at around 535ft AMSL on my system.
I do not know how to amend terrain or mesh, but if you are using this airport as solo (no MP, VATSIM or alike), have you tried to redraw an airport background once airport elevation is altered?

Since no one else is answering I'll give it a stab. Note I use FSX but hopefully the process is the same. This assumes it is a default airport, or an addon. If created by yourself just change the elevation of the airport and the polygons. It is not present by default in P3D v4.

1. Exclude the existing airport flatten by clicking the button with the green shape on it (Add Polygon), creating a small triangle on the edge of the existing airport polygon (move your aircraft's position in P3D to the polygon's edge to determine that), and give it the properties of Exclude Specific /Airport Background Flatten.
2. Create a new polygon the shape of the "hole" in FS. Give this the properties of Airport Background/Flatten. Give this polygon the Altitude of the surrounding ground.
3. Go to Tools/Change Airport Reference Data and enter the same Altitude you did in step 2. Note that this will create a small file in Scenery/World/scenery.

If this doesn't work, exclude the entire airport polygon by choosing Exclude General/Airport Backgrounds in step 1 and Airport Background/Flatten Mask Class Map Exclude Autogen in step 2.

Hope this helps,

Hi Tom,
Thank you for the explanation. I still have a lot to learn about ADE, but will keep a note of your post. I already had the same issue with some airports, stock or addon.
HLBK is a stock airport into P3Dv5, but I doubt it might be used by many people during MP flights, so no major trouble to have it fitting the surrounding mesh at an altered altitude against real world airport.
And by the way, thank you for your many contributions to the community! A leading light to better understanding of, and learning about our sims.
