• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

How can I change texture colors?

Hi,
If I want to change the color of a wall or roof in a particular building either default or custom made, I just looked at ModelConverterX thinking I could do it that way, but I found nothing there that could do the job. Is there a way to do so?
I found several freeware hangars, and have asked permission to modify the roof color of a hangar to match what I am trying to achieve, this is a picture of the real thing.

That depends. If the modeled roof is textured, then you will need to use a paint program (like Photoshop or Gimp) to repaint the portion of the texture that covers the roof to your desired color. If the modeled roof is not textured but is a just a plain model color, then you could use a utility that can change colors in models. If the roof displays any details or "texture" at all, the first choice is almost certainly the case.

Bernardo, link or upload your model if you'd like and I will take a look.

Hi Rick, the hangar I found sort of similar is one from Hawaiian Airports 2 by George Keogh, a superb work. George kindly gave me permission to use his scenery objects a while back, provided they were for a freeware scenery, credit be given to the author, and only upload to sites that do not charge $ to be a member. Here is the object.bgl, and it is PHBK hangar 2 27x215. I also increased its dimensions for this particular airport. Let me know if this is what you need or is there something else. Thanks a million Rick!! Here it is at SPJJ:

That building uses the texture PHBK_Hangar_2.DDS to texture the roof; that would have to be repainted. Also, at night it uses PHBK_Hangar_2_LM.DDS. Keep in mind that if you repaint this roof texture, it could affect every such building placed at airports around the world. Even if you have your own copy of the library BGL file in your scenery's folder (using the modified texture) and another copy of this library BGL somewhere else (using the original texture), there is no guarantee that FS will load the library from the proper folder - loading of library BGL files appears to me to be rather random. You will probably sometimes see hangars with red roofs in other sceneries, and hangars with the original roof in your scenery.

You could use MCX to give the object a new GUID, which would keep it separate from the original object.

Bernardo, That model uses a single texture sheet. It would have been my intention to provide a nearly identical one with a red roof and provide instructions on how to replace it, since I do not have the same permissions from George. However, since the texture image was not included, it is actually much easier to simply produce something more like your included image. You will find that this model has almost the exact dimension and orientation as one found of a similar color at SPJJ airport.

I think I'm just going to let anybody use it so I'll just upload it with a basic disclaimer and it's welcome to be added to the resource section here if it qualifies.
