• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi guys,
I'm new here in this forum. But lots of you have been here for a while.
I was wondering anyone can estimate by your own feeling. How many percentage of the projects that have been posted but no released?

I'd like to have this number to warn new guys in Thailand who want to enter to the field of scenery designer that lot of endurance and time has to be paid on the projects.

Don't do the scenery if you are not patient enough. You might waste your time and abandon you project later.

Thanks for any comments.
Best Regards,
Tic

That's a tricky one. I think many people that publish about their project will usually finish it. But of course there are many projects we never hear about and that might never get finished.

I thought of and draw almost 40 planes this year. I only made 2 for FS. :D
This is a time consuming hobby, so it's natural that we simply don't have the time to finish whatever we want.

More than you can imagine.

I've got a few with a release date set to infinity...

Actually, that's not entirely correct. I never announce any release dates since it's against my add-on development philosophy.

Let's just say I've got a few projects on my HDD featuring zero progress in a long time.

I think that probably there are a great number of projects that fail to be released. The main reason being that when announcing your project and maybe releasing some screen shots of it, you receive only a lukewarm response to it and realize that very few simmers are actually going to download and install your project files. I have been developing a scenery project covering Vancouver Island float plane bases, heliports and lighthouse stations for Orbx Pacific Northwest. Obviously most people must be content with what Orbx includes in their package, as I have only received a modest amount of interest in response to the info I have released at Sim-Outhouse.

Really, Mike? Because I would have thought that OrbX customers would be very interested. Certainly sounds dandy to me. Have you posted anything on the OrbX forum?

Orbx runs a very tightly controlled scenery environment. For instance, you can not utilize ANY Orbx scenery objects in your own freeware projects. They expect you to work within the OZx community, who themselves will not let you utilize ANY OZx scenery objects in your own freeware projects, unless it is released by OZx themselves by their own developers! So every last single building, helicopter platform and float plane dock/ramp has had to be created by myself.

I would think that Payware makers would be glad if freeware developers used their objects since they would get the credits and publicity. What I find crazy is that there is no "Freeware Warehouse" like you find in X-Plane. You place your stuff there and all freeware designers can freely use them.:confused:

Except that Orbx likes to sell their own addon airports for their scenery. With them charging 3/4 the price of the whole Pacific Northwest for each individual airport they release, the last thing they need is for someone to release over 30 additional bases for free.

I have to admit I have two released projects out of the seven I started... and I've been tinkering with this for over ten years now. I lose my interest at times and have to push away from the computer from time to time until I'm reinspired.

I was even involved with a payware company attempting to recreate KOAK but shortly after I left the company disappeared... I never went back to continue my work on KOAK.

Interesting topic ;)
I have to admit, that at least one project never has come to a finish. But other ones are still in progress (for a few month now, but not cancelled).

I would like to do much more but I don't have 8 hours a day to spend in scenery design - not yet :D

I think with projects like this it is easy to get distracted when you reach a difficult part in the process. I was moving quickly on my KCSG but when it came to the ground stuff I waned and went out to enjoy the outdoors. As it gets colder my interests turn back to flight sim and jumping back on this project.

On a positive note I did setup a quick page and logo for showing more of my stuff off http://digihangar.com/
