• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

How to delete airstrips from addon scenery

Messages

Hi there!

I use PIS PNG Extreme Bush Trekker. What I don't like on the airstrips are the geometrical rendered airstrips and boundary's. Not all of them are default FSX airstrips.
How can I find out which file contains the airstrip and the gras flattern around the strip? I want to change this by selfmade textures or to overlay an selfmade texture.

Cheers, Jürgen

You could try FSX Airport Scanner which can be downloaded from www.downloadcenter.scruffyduck.org.uk. There is a folder there that contains the program. This would let you search through the addon scenery folders to see if the airports can be found. It won't find flatten files but generally they would be with the airport file.

Thank you Jon.
Can your program find also airports which can not be directly loaded in FSX?
Is it possible with ADE or another tool to add these airstrips to the FSX database so they can be choosen from the airport menue?

Not sure I understand the question.

Installing an airport bgl file in an activated scenery folder in FSX should mean that the airports will be available from the airport menu.

Sorry for my bad English...
I am not sure you know or have PNG Extreme Bush Trekker but I am sure you know the beautifull airstrips created by the OZx team for australia.
All these airstrips or airports have no ICAO code and so they are not in the list of choosable airports in FSX.
I have no luck with ADE to find them.
But I have another solution (and new questions) for my "problem" but this must be placed in another forum.
I never have used ADE except for changing the altitude or to move the parts of an airport to let them match the photo scenery. So I don't know if I can add a background image to the scenery with ADE (I believe not).

It is very good :)

Ah, yes I do know about this. The designers did not create any Airport records (AFD or AFCAD file) for these airports. I believe the design intent was for users to need to find them by co-ordinates and so on. Therefore they have no ICAO and will not appear in the airport list by design.

I think that some people have used tools like ADE to create some start locations that will show up in the airport list.

Obviously ADE cannot therefore find them as there is no airport data bgl file

ADE cannot create photo scenery. you would need to use a tool such as SBuilderX or FSX KML to do this.

Yes I believe too!

Can you say me where I can find a tutorial which shows me how to add start locations to the FSX database?
I can move to an airstrip and save this position as flight but I want to add it to the airport list.

Thanks for your help!

You can do this with ADE. The manual is very comprehensive in both English and German.

You will need to assign an airport code to each one. Basically use ADE to create a new airport. Make sure you know the co-ordinates of the airport in Sim before you start. Once you have created the airport then you can connect ADE to FSX, move the user aircraft to where you want a start and add the start.

Position at the required airfield in FSX.

Run ADE and "Connect to FSX".

In ADE, select "file/New airport" and fill in the details. You will need to use a unique ICAO code and use the coordinates displayed at the top-left of the ADE display. Click "OK".

Right-click on the ADE display and select "Add/Other Start"

Then, select "HELIPAD" and click "OK"

Disconnect ADE from FSX and exit FSX.

In ADE, compile the airport.

Exit ADE.

Copy the compiled bgl to an active scenery area then run FSX. Your new airport should appear in the "Select Airport" dialog

Oops. Jon beat me to it :D

Thanks again!
I will follow your instructions and will read the tutorial.

UHPS I have seen your screenshots after posting George.
Many thanks for this!
Should be very easy to follow.

Thanks George

Much better put that I did :)

default cvx files

Jon- Is there a way to get rid of the default airport's cvx file? In other words, I see the default airport with a grass strip surrounding it, usually an ugly rectangle. I assume it is a flatten file. Often this causes nearby water to "climb" up to the airport's EL. Not cool!

If there a way to modify this file or get rid of it entirely, put in our own, and how might I make my own so nearby water will not try to "climb" to try and meet the airport's elevation? I do have SbuilderX for FSX, but i'm not very good with it yet. I can install the AB files, but I can't seem to get any of the LC files to show any difference at the airport.

Example of what I am discussing is EGPM - Scatsta in Scotland. Bob

In FSX you can get rid of the default by using a terrain exclusion polygon. Use a General Exclusion Polygon tagged to exclude airport backgrounds. The only requirement is that the exclusion polygon crosses (or cuts) the background polygon.

thanx for the help. I'll go read up and try to understand how to go about doing this, what to choose in the list when I make my polygon in Xbuilder.

This is a while later- I chose exlude all terrain items. (I think it's called that) It worked, but it pushed the water quite far away from where real life shows it to be.

From this point should I pay attention to the size of my polygon, and\or where I cut across the default with my poly? Bob

If you just want to remove and replace and airport background in FSX then, if you have it, you can use ADE as it handles terrain polygons in FSX. This might be simpler than using SBuilderX. However if you have a lot of terrain work to do or want to add photo scenery then SBuilderX (or FSX KML) is better.

Just install the new ADE. Had it some time ago but lost it due to computer melt down and forgot to reinstall.

Intend to use it much! However, I find I can't open an existing airport I modified with AFX. ADE sees only the stock airport. Is there something I can do about this? I tried to open the bgl (afx) failed to open.

Tried others, same thing.

Working on Wick (EGPC). Another is EGPM (Scatsta).
I tried to put in a road at Wick, but it didn't show up in FSX. I'm sure the reason was I could only work off of the stock Wick was is disabled because of my modified AFX. Maybe the two apps (AFX ADE) are not compatible due to bglcomp compilation? I thought i had used both in the past, but I may be mistaken about that. Bob

Not sure why ADE is not opening the AFX file - what is the error? If it is an unknown type you should make sure you have the very latest update (1.46.02)
