• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I Need Some Help

If anyone can get on the Teamspeak server and run me through modeling an aircraft on Gmax. Thank You very much!

I would suggest that you check out the tutorials on GMax that are here www.scenery.org/tutorials.htm GMax is not the sort of thing that someone can just talk you though in half an hour. I think you will find that it will take some weeks to learn.

You are wanting someone to talk you through weeks of work?

:D

If I were you, I would start with the Gmax tutorials. Start with the first one. Dont go to tutorial 2 until you can do tutorial 1 by heart/memory, remembering where all buttons/controls/tools are at. "Then" go to the next tutorial.

This isnt a 'learn in 10 min's' 3D program, this is based on 3DS Max, which is one of the best, most powerful 3D Design engines made, used for making animated movies now. (Maya is used for animating, Max for model mesh, shading, etc).

So just buckle down and learn where all the commands and tools are, learn to make basic boxes with extrusions and cuts in them, then google the 'stupid idiots guide to gmax' which will show you how to make a cool plane. But until you know where your command keys and tools are, you are lost. Learn that first, and in order. (The tutorials are designed that if you skip one, you dont know where certain things are for the next tutorial).

and be patient...! (You too Felix). :D

and, without casting doubts on Bill's modelling abilities (he's sort of got the hang of gmax by now), even experienced modellers ask for help every once in a while. For that matter, there have been cases where complete gmax newbies help the experienced modellers out because the expert has "rediscovered" a newbie error (hmmmm what's that little blue/white checkered button in the material manager again for? :) quilty parties shall not be named)

Learning (and using) gmax is one thing, it's the "modelling for FS-n quirks that trip many of us up!
